Selective Insurance is seeking a Paralegal / Sr. Paralegal to support our Litigation Management Unit. This is a hybrid role that will be located in our Branchville, NJ or Charlotte, NC office.

In this role, you will be a member of a team of legal professionals dedicated to the development, implementation and maintenance of protocols, processes and performance related to legal services providers and other litigation vendors.

The Litigation Management Unit supports Selective’s Claims organization across all lines of business and actively seeks to efficiently develop and maintain relationships with legal services partners with a distinctively high degree of quality to resolve legal and business challenges effectively and cost efficiently.

You will work with outside law firms and internal Selective business units in furtherance of this mission.

All paralegal work is self-generated without administrative staff support.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES :

  • Assist in the facilitation of law firm on-boarding and performance regarding all aspects of the legal services business relationship (approved timekeepers, billing issues, guideline compliance, etc.)
  • Assist with the subpoena response group with respect to receipt, logging and reply to subpoenas and record requests including, but not limited to initial response contact, invoicing, response letters and Certification of records.
  • Provide support to the Quality Assurance program with regard to formal litigated matter audits including scheduling, staffing and calibration.
  • Contribute to the review, maintenance and oversight of all outside counsel and vendor relationships including management of approved firms, maintenance of all required compliance documentation and management of any / all RFP efforts conducted to secure / retain law firms in compliance with procurement guidelines.
  • Monitor dedicated mailboxes for internal and external communications; distribute communications to Selective staff, law firms and vendors as required.
  • Maintain working knowledge of industry benchmarks / standards for all aspects of litigation management.
  • Provide assistance on projects (such as measuring and tracking data), as requested.
  • Provide direct support to Assistant Vice President, Litigation Management Unit as needed / requested.

JOB QUALIFICATIONS :

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Paralegal certificate from ABA approved paralegal program required.
  • At least 5 years paralegal experience is required.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Outlook and Excel required.
  • Experience with legal case management software, MCS, Claims Inquiry, Citrix, and CLAS preferred.
  • Experience in vendor contracting and oversight preferred.
  • Strong problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent customer service, writing and oral communication skills required.

The salary range for this position is : Paralegal $ $54,000 $85,000; Sr. Paralegal $62,000 $98,000. The actual base salary is based on geographic location, and the range is representative of salaries for this role throughout Selective's footprint.

Additional considerations include the candidate's qualifications and experience. Job Grade or Level will be based on experience.
