Job Title : Research Assistant
Reports To : Physician
GENERAL SUMMARY OF DUTIES :
The Research Assistant will be fully trained by the office staff and will be responsible for many aspects of the office including, data entry, data management, quality assurance, and patient interaction and scheduling.
The Research Assistant is responsible for assisting the physician with patient care, clerical, environmental and organizational tasks.
Responsible for appointment scheduling and chart management. Additionally, the Research Assistant is responsible for all aspects of clinical research including compliance with regulatory bodies, study coordination, data collection, quality and security, and preparation of periodic reports.
Essential Job Functions :
- Works with physicians, ortho techs & X-ray techs to ensure exceptional patient care
- Greets patients and escorts patients to exam room
- Directs patients to complete paperwork
- Records demographic information in patient charts
- Facilitates accurate recording of past medical history
- Updates medication information in the patient chart as indicated
- Reviews prior visit documentation and prepares needed supplies and test results for current visit
- Facilitates efficient utilization of patient rooms, and physician office time
- Obtains vital signs on patients; including blood pressure and pulse.
- Removal of sutures and dressing changes
- Prepares and organizes exam rooms
- Stocks supplies in exam rooms
- Maintains documentation in the medical record to ensure accurate tracking of the patient’s medical treatment
- Prepares new patient charts
- Maintains confidentiality of patient records
- Works cooperatively and effectively with the physician’s direct administrative assistant who may assign other tasks or responsibilities as needed
- Demonstrates ability to successfully work on multiple clinical studies, interface with investigator, manages day-to-day interactions with subjects, proactively identifies study related issues and provides recommendations for resolutions
- Responsible for over-seeing and participation in data validation, data collection and data analysis.
- Communicate and coordinate interactions and meetings with residents, researchers and attending staff who are involved with ongoing or developing projects
- Attend professional development meetings or other relevant meetings as indicated
- Additional duties as assigned by the Manager to meet department needs.
Requirements :
- Prior medical experience preferred
- Medical assistant training preferred
- High School education
- Computer skill proficiency in Microsoft word and outlook
- Efficiently assist in the coordination of a busy office, including use of email, document scanning, and word processing
- Attention to detail
- Excellent interpersonal skills including telephone etiquette
- Motivated individual with team approach
- Organizational skills to schedule time appropriately
- Ability to read and understand scientific literature
- Basic knowledge of the clinical and basic study process
- Interpersonal skills including excellent communication skills to deal effectively with staff, patients and physicians in courteous manners
- Must be able to travel to all sites if / when necessary.
