Johns Hopkins University supports a flexible work model which includes four different work modalities. This role has a hybrid arrangement with an onsite presence of 3 days per week.

The manager will confirm the team's core onsite days where the majority / all team members will work in the office. Employees who travel on university business can count those days towards their onsite days.

The Johns Hopkins School of Nursing (JHSON) is a globally-recognized leader in nursing education, research, and practice.

3 nursing school in the world by QS World University. With over 15,000 alumni, the school has an excellent reputation for training of future nursing leaders and nurse educators, and, among other things, specializes in community public health nursing, global nursing, geriatric nursing, and patient safety.

The Associate Director of Development is responsible for developing and implementing strategies to increase the number and level of donations received at the School of Nursing.

This role will be primarily focused on creating and implementing a plan for cultivation and solicitation of leadership giving both at the annual and major gift level.

This includes the identification and cultivation of donors who could eventually grow into major gift donors, the identification of donors who might be ready for a major gift conversation in the effort to build the pipeline, as well as the identification and cultivation of donors interested in deferred and planned giving.

This position reports to the Director of Development.

Key responsibilities :

  • Conduct at least 100 in-person / virtual meetings with alumni and constituents with the aim of identifying, cultivating, and soliciting philanthropic prospects who have the capacity to make financial commitments of at least four-figures
  • Manage and solicit a portfolio of approximately 100 prospects / donors - with an annual fundraising goal of at least $200,000
  • Identify new audience segments for identification and cultivation, draft strategy plans, and execute on those strategies
  • Partner with the Office of Annual Giving to coordinate and execute SON's annual giving mailings, including drafting appeals and managing specialty campaigns like the white coat, vital signs, Giving Tuesday, and ONEHopkins
  • Partner with the Director of Development to develop approaches for reunion fundraising and opportunities to engage alumni and other supporters in the Annual Fund
  • Identify and cultivate planned giving prospects
  • Other duties as assigned
  • Travel and some weekend work should be expected

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree
  • Three years related experience in Development, Alumni Relations, Marketing, or Communications within an academic or nonprofit organization and a minimum of one year of professional experience

Preferred Qualifications

  • Prior experience of running a direct marketing program and demonstrated success in building an annual giving program or in successfully running an Alumni Reunion Giving program.
  • Prior experience in annual and major gift solicitation, including proven ability to move donors from identification through solicitation
  • Prior experience with planned giving
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills with experience sharing priorities and funding opportunities
  • Ability to develop and implement strategic plans and thinking
  • Ability to cultivate trust and develop relationships with internal and external stakeholders
  • Expertise in MS Office Suite. Excellent computer skills including Word and Excel, and experience in working with databases
  • Ability to work as part of a team while being a self-starter
  • Willingness to travel
