Role Summary :

The Pump Reliability Engineer is responsible for but not limited to, supporting operations, company project managers, commercial development teams and Buckeye’s rotating equipment program manager.

Role provides services to diagnose and repair existing pumps, development of critical spares program, supporting project managers with specifying and procuring new pumps, performing hydraulic calculations for trouble shooting and projects, reviewing drawings and engineering information to ensure systems are fit for purpose from a pumps and hydraulics standpoint.

Additionally, role will have responsibilities for development and implementation of rotating equipment reliability programs including data driven mean time between failure.

Responsibilities & Essential Functions include :

Regional Operations Support : Support operations with rotating equipment trouble shooting, retrofit and system re-configuration.

Key responsibilities include :

  • Identifying operational, mechanical, or hydraulic problems related to rotating equipment and identify options for repair, replacement, or upgrades.
  • Performing system hydraulic analysis and design using software and by manual methods as needed.
  • Be available to support emergency response activities related to pumps and motors when requested.
  • When requested by operations, manage contract service provides performing repairs and upgrades to rotating equipment including scope development, contracting and schedule / cost management.
  • Rotating Equipment Program Support : Support the Buckeye rotating equipment program manager including review of RCAP, MCAP & MEXP project submissions and collaboration in the development of project submissions.

Key responsibilities include : Review of district and corporate project submissions validating scopes, completeness of submissions and project readiness.

Submit projects to solve operational problems and or recommended equipment changes that have economic justification or abate identified operational risks.

Provide oversight to risk rank and prioritization of project submissions.

Capital Project & Expense Project Support. Support regional and corporate project managers to ensure successful project execution.

Key responsibilities include : Maintain contact and provide support as needed to company project managers through the project life cycle project development, execution, commissioning and close out.

Review project designs including equipment selection to ensure the correct equipment has been specified and identify any hydraulic concerns or issues.

Support project managers to correctly specify equipment to insure it meets the latest Buckeye standards, support bidding, review bids and make recommendations for award.

When needed, generate hydraulic pump and system calculations to ensure systems are sized correctly for intended operations.

When necessary, audit pump vendors and or repair shops for compliance with Buckeye Standards. In addition, and as necessary, visit vendors, manufacturers or repair shops at critical hold points or during performance tests.

Rotating Equipment Reliability Program : Responsibilities for development, implementation and ongoing ownership of rotating equipment reliability programs.

Key responsibilities include : Program level identification of critical rotating equipment across the Buckeye asset base.

Develop critical spares strategy for critical equipment working in collaboration with various operations teams.For critical equipment, develop and implement data driven mean time between failure metrics using available work order maintenance records.

Monitor equipment health and take pro-active actions using Buckeye’s Asset Reliability & Performance Monitoring (ARPM) tools.

Identify and implement new or incremental ARPM targets that provide organizational value.Identify new and assist in management of existing rotating equipment Master Service Agreements (MSA) that support the rotating equipment program.

ARES Departmental Contributions : Support the Asset Reliability and Engineering Services (ARES) department with individual and cross functional objectives within the group.

Key responsibilities include :

  • Maintenance of ARES department KPI metrics and status updates.
  • Submission of lessons learned including organizational communication where applicable.
  • Contribute to ongoing ARES organizational communication and newsletter.
  • Organizational Training & Communication : Provide training to other Buckeye personnel to expand their knowledge of hydraulic systems.

Training platforms and locations will vary but could include routine meetings, events, summits, when installing new equipment, changing the way existing equipment will operate etc.

Other duties as assigned.

Position Requirements :

  • Bachelor's Degree Mechanical Engineering or related discipline OR equivalent experience required.
  • Ideal candidate will have 3-5 years related experience in with pump and hydraulic engineering in an operations setting with an understanding of troubleshooting, commissioning and capital improvements.
  • Understanding of pipeline and terminal terminology and operations preferred.

Certificates & Licenses :

None required.

Other Skills, Attributes and Abilities :

  • Must possess an understanding of pipeline control systems and automation for field devices such as valves, control valves, tank operations, RTU’s, PLC’s, and pressure and flow devices.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills used to mentor and enable users.
  • Ability to understand and solve complex business and technical problems.
  • The individual must be able to work in a team-oriented environment and interact on numerous concepts at various levels of the end-user community.
  • Ability to complete assignments on time with minimal direction.
  • Ability to describe a problem, solution and why the solution solves the problem in a succinct manner.
  • Knowledge of Pipeline and or Terminal business or systems preferred

Essential Functions :

  • This position requires the ability to safely and successfully perform essential job functions consistent with ADA, FMLA and other federal, state and local standards, including meeting qualitative and or / quantitative productivity standards.
  • This role requires the ability to maintain regular, punctual attendance consistent with the ADA, FMLA and other federal, state and local standards.
  • This position requires compliance with all personnel policies.
  • Candidate will need to accommodate up to 50% business travel as needed across Buckeye’s asset base.

Physical & Safety Requirements :

  • The person in this position needs to occasionally move inside the office to access file cabinets, office equipment, etc.
  • This role continuously operates a computer and other office productivity equipment a calculator, copy machine and computer printer).
  • Travel involved to field facilities for investigative purposes, and for equipment and system commissioning. Field travel involves ambulatory activity and visual information gathering.
