The Tri-County Dental Society (TCDS) seeks a strong leader to guide and grow an energetic and diverse dental society. TCDS is the second largest of 32 local components of the California Dental Association (CDA) and serves over 2,000 member dentists and the public in Riverside, San Bernardino, and eastern LA counties.
With a rich history dating back to 1908, and with strong organizational ties to the California Dental Association and American Dental Association, TCDS is a recognized leader in organized dentistry.
Members benefit from programs in areas of continuing education, regulatory compliance, professional advocacy, practice support and professional networking.
Job Description The Executive Director serves as the Chief Executive Officer of the TCDS and is responsible for all aspects of operating an association.
The Executive Director reports directly to the President of the Board of Directors.
Operations / Personnel Management
- Oversees the day-to-day functioning of the society office
- Responsible for overall office efficiency and effectiveness, administering TCDS policies and maintaining standards
- Office personnel management including recruitment, hiring, training, supervising, evaluating, and discharging staff
- Administers employee benefits
Fiscal Management
- Prepares draft of annual budget for Treasurer and Finance Committee
- Manages budget to ensure a strong financial base and sound fiscal management
- Pays invoices, manages payroll, tax deposits, and filing of tax returns
- Manages collection of all sources of income Creates quarterly and annual financial reports; collaborates with accountant and finance committee to interpret vital financial information
Service to the Society and Members
- Promotes the objectives and goals of the TCDS
- Drafts and implements Board policies and procedures
- Partners with the Board in the development and implementation of a strategic plan
- Prepares and distributes Board meeting minutes
- Serves as an ex-officio member of the Board
- Provides staff support to the Board and committees
- Attends committee meetings as needed
- Annual Meeting planning and coordination
- Developing meeting agendas and preparing background material
- Strategically manages the various means of communicating with members and the public
Publications
- Serves as the managing editor of the Connection membership publication
- Responsible for final edit of each issue, securing supplemental articles and information, managing the advertising process, monitoring content for society impact and potential society liability.
- Write an Executive Director’s article for each issue
Interaction with the public and allied organizations
- Serves as primary TCDS contact with the public and may, on occasion, need to function as its spokesperson
- Serves as liaison to the American Dental Association, the California Dental Association, and other components
- Attends CDA House of Delegates, assisting delegates in their duties, coordinating travel and component events
- Attends conferences, workshops and seminars sponsored by CDA, ADA and Association Executive Societies to increase skills, or as requested by board
Job Requirements

- Proven leadership, organizational and analytical skills
- Strong fiscal management skills
- Excellent written, verbal, public speaking, and interpersonal communication skills
- Demonstrates diplomacy and tact while interacting with all levels within and outside of the organization
- Must be able to manage multiple priorities simultaneously; perform job duties independently exercising good judgment and professionalism
- Requires computer skills, including the ability to operate Windows, Microsoft Office
- programs, and QuickBooks
- Requires periodic to frequent auto / air travel with the ability to stay overnight for multiple days
- Basic understanding of organized dentistry’s objectives and code of ethics is highly desirable
- Able to work collaboratively with board members to achieve best results.
Education / Experience
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent educational experience
- Prior non-profit, association or comparable organizational involvement preferred
- Prior office management experience
- Certified Association Executive (CAE) designation, provided by the American Society of Association Executives, is preferred
