Job Summary

We are seeking a team-oriented Control Systems Engineer to join our Control Systems & Services (CSS) group, which is part of the Supply Operations Department.

This department handles the sourcing, treatment, storage, and distribution of water. As a Control Systems Engineer, you will help achieve our goals of providing excellent customer service by ensuring that automation requirements are met or exceeded.

This position is based in Shelton, CT, and reports to the Manager of Technical Services and Supply Operations.

Principal Responsibilities

  • Assist in developing Control Strategy specifications and functionality standards.
  • Learn the basics of an MES or ERP system, such as SAP, for tasks like scheduling, tracking, and requisitioning.
  • Help refine Control Systems Standards and stay updated with current industry trends.
  • Perform integration services for small to medium-sized projects, including Pump Stations, PRVs, and Water Treatment Facilities.
  • Support trades with troubleshooting, calibration, loop tuning, and setting up control systems and instrumentation in a process environment.
  • Develop network architectures, including but not limited to Ethernet, Modbus, Profinet, Genius, and Device-net.
  • Serve as an on-call stand-by controls engineer on a rotational basis as assigned by department leadership.
  • Manage System Integrators working on our facilities during maintenance.
  • Participate in external training courses for automation hardware and software platforms to continuously improve your skills.
  • Understand and contribute to a long-term vision for SCADA systems in a remote deployment environment. This includes designing expandable architectures for data collection, control capabilities for individual remote nodes, and planning for site upgrades and facility audits.
  • Create engineering documents using Auto-CAD software, such as P&ID drawings, Networking Architectural Layouts, Electrical Schematics, As-Built Drawings, and Control Enclosure Layouts.
  • Develop logic according to established standards to satisfy control strategies, functional descriptions, or control algorithms in an automated process control environment.
  • Possess the ability to lift 20 pounds and work in various outdoor conditions as needed.
  • Be capable of working in confined spaces and / or underground facilities when required.

Qualifications

  • Previous experience in scripting and programming across various development languages and platforms.
  • Proven experience in troubleshooting PLC and SCADA applications in a utility system is a plus.
  • Knowledge of Aveva products such as InTouch, System Platform, Historian, and Insight is an added advantage.

Education

  • A Bachelor of Science Degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or a related field of Engineering.
  • A minimum of 2 years’ experience in designing and implementing SCADA and process control systems.
