Assistant Director for DEI Training, Education & Community
We are seeking an Assistant Director for DEI Training, Education, & Community Relations who will be responsible for, in collaboration with the Assistant Dean for DEI, developing, implementing, and overseeing training and community development initiatives that support diversity, equity, and inclusion across the organization.
This role will focus on creating DEI educational programs and expanding internal and external community engagement in ways that promote a sense of transparency, trust and mutual respect around DEI issues and concerns for a more inclusive environment.

Through its Conservatory for undergraduate and graduate studies and the Preparatory, Baltimore's largest community performing arts school, Peabody empowers musicians and dancers from diverse backgrounds to create and perform at the highest level.
Specific Duties & Responsibilities
DEI Training and Education (50%)
- Collaborate with the Assistant Dean of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) to identify DEI-related needs (e.g., trainings, workshops, focus groups, etc.)
- Identify opportunities to enhance diversity and inclusion efforts and develop and implement DEI trainings and initiatives that align with the organization's goals and values.
- Collaborate with various departments to integrate DEI principles into existing programs and initiatives.
- Assess the current state of diversity, equity, and inclusion training within the organization and identify areas for improvement.
- In collaboration with the Assistant Dean of DEI, develop, and implement a comprehensive campus wide DEI training program for students, faculty, and staff.
- Conduct workshops, seminars, and presentations to raise awareness and promote understanding of issues related to DEI (e.
g., bias, microaggressions, anti-racism, conflict resolution, etc.)
- Stay updated on best practices and trends in DEI to ensure the organization remains at the forefront of inclusive practices.
- Provide regular reports on the progress of DEI training and education efforts to leadership.
- In collaboration with the Assistant Dean of DEI, develop educational resources and materials to support DEI initiatives.
- In collaboration with the Assistant Dean of DEI, develop metrics and tools to measure the effectiveness of DEI training programs and initiatives.
- Collaborate with HR and other departments to integrate DEI trainings and initiatives into various aspects of the organization.
- Establish partnerships with external organizations or experts to enhance DEI training and education programs.
- In collaboration with the Assistant Dean of DEI, develop initiatives to foster an inclusive and welcoming culture and provide guidance and support on DEI initiatives.
- Serve as main point of contact for all DEI training and / or professional development initiatives.
DEI Community Relations (50%)
- Build and maintain positive relationships with faculty, students, staff, external community organizations, and stakeholders to enhance the Office of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion's (ODEI) presence in the community.
- Attend community events, meetings, and forums to stay informed about local DEI initiatives and build partnerships.
- In collaboration with the Assistant Dean of DEI, develop strategic goals and action plans for internal and external community engagement regarding diversity, equity, and inclusion.
- Assist with DEI-related concerns within the community (e.g., students, faculty, and staff) to help identify barriers or challenges encountered and support the Incident Support Team (IST) with the resolution of DEI incidents within the Peabody community.
- Monitor effectiveness of IST process, provide recommendations for areas for improvement, and provide updates to ensure the effectiveness of incident resolution.
- Maintain accurate, up-to-date records and summaries of DEI concerns to inform programming and training needs and assist with the identification and coordination of necessary services, resources, and support systems to enhance resolution of concerns / issues.
- Provide administrative support in response to community concerns and incidents to ensure seamless delivery of services and communicate effectively with IST to ensure a collaborative, equitable approach to resolution.
- Continuously review, reassess, and update records of community concerns / issues based on progress and changing needs.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
- Experience with the development, implementation, and evaluation of training programs and initiatives for students, faculty, and / or staff on issues related to diversity, equity, and inclusion.
- Excellent communication, presentation, interpersonal, and advocacy skills with ability to build rapport and establish relationships.
- Strong understanding of diversity, equity, and inclusion concepts and best practices with compassion, empathy, and cultural sensitivity.
- Analytical skills for measuring program effectiveness and making data-driven decisions.
- Ability to collaborate effectively across diverse groups within the organization.
- Ability to identify and implement innovative approaches to building awareness, respect, and appreciation for individuals from underrepresented backgrounds.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree.
- Four years related experience.
- Additional education may substitute for required experience to the extent permitted by the JHU formula.
Preferred Qualifications
- Degree in human resources, diversity and inclusion, organizational development, community development or related field.
- Master's degree preferred.
- Prior experience in conflict resolution or a related role is beneficial with knowledge of intervention strategies.
