Position : Assistant Controller
Overview :
The Assistant Controller assists the Corporate Controller in overseeing the organization's accounting operations. This role includes managing accounting activities such as monthly and annual closings, accounts payable and receivable, and financial reporting.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities :
- Execute month-end and year-end closing procedures, including the preparation of journal entries and review of colleagues' work.
- Supervise the accounting staff, currently comprising two professionals.
- Maintain and configure the ERP system to ensure accurate data capture and proper ledger postings.
- Oversee account reconciliations, promptly addressing any reconciling items.
- Prepare monthly financial statements for assigned entities and support the preparation of consolidated financial results.
- Improve existing processes and procedures, with a focus on continuous enhancement and internal control development.
- Conduct internal operational audits periodically and assist external accounting firms with financial audits and corporate tax return preparation.
- Support the credit review process for new customers and ensure compliance with sales and use tax regulations.
- Contribute to the development of annual operating and capital budgets, monitoring and reporting on compliance and variances.
- Develop reports and analyses to help management measure and predict financial performance.
- Maintain regular communication with the Corporate Controller regarding all accounting operations and ongoing projects.
- Perform additional responsibilities as needed.
Education / Experience Requirements :
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting.
- MBA and / or CPA preferred.
- 4+ years of experience in financial management or a similar financial role.
- Strong knowledge of GAAP, financial reporting, and internal controls.
- Ability to lead complex projects while managing the daily responsibilities of the accounting department.
- Proven capability to develop and manage a team.
- Proficient in spreadsheet modeling, ERP systems, and relational databases, preferably MS SQL Server and SSRS.
- Advanced Excel skills, including complex functions such as Index, Match, Address, Indirect, Arrays, etc.
- VBA coding experience is a plus but not required.
- Experience with business intelligence software and OLAP cube models is a plus.
- Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to make decisions based on accurate and timely analysis.
