Job Title : Registered Nurse 1 : 1 (RN or LPN)
School : Enger, 10 month
Position Summary / Purpose : Assess student health problems and safety needs. Administer acute pediatric nursing care for the medically fragile with disabilities preferred.
Administer basic first aid; dispense prescribed medications; assist with medical procedures; document activities in accordance with established guidelines outlined in the student's IEP and individualized health care plan.
Role and Responsibilities / Essential Job Functions :
- Works under the supervision of the District Nurse assigned to the student's program
- Accompanies and individually monitors student to and from school and during community activities including riding the bus with student
- The 1 : 1 nurse's primary responsibility is to the individual student's health care plan
- Works collaboratively with the District Nurse in developing and updating the health care plan
- Demonstrates continuing competence in daily and emergency procedures
- Communicates changes in health status of student to District Nurse, teacher and parent
- Checks medical and emergency equipment daily as needed
- Provides liftining, student escort and / or positioning tasks as needed
- Adheres to all HIPPA guidelines
Preferred Skills :
- Tracheostomy and suctioning experience
- As a multi-language district, we always prefer staff who are bilingual but it is not required for this position
Qualifications and Education Requirements : Illinois State Nursing License, Current CPR / BLS Card, Pediatric acute care skills for medically fragile with disabilities preferred.
Working conditions / Environment :
Physical Demands : walk, bend, twist, squat, stoop, reach above head, reach forward, lift up to 55 pounds with assistance, pushing and pulling, visual acuity close / distance / depth perception, hearing to receive information, verbal to exchange information, sitting for prolonged periods of time
Environmental Conditions : indoor climate controlled setting (for example school office, health office, hallways, and classrooms).
May include work outdoors for student assistance throughout the school year. Includes exposure to disease and / or infections.
Examples of Equipment / Supplies Used to Perform Tasks : standard office equipment including photocopiers, computers, phone, and printers;
first aid medical equipment and specialized student health equipment (for example, feeding tubes, suctioning equipment, lifts).
