Your large group Employee Benefits experience at a retail insurance brokerage, California Life & Health license, ability to meet clients face to face and be the lead quarterback on key accounts in the Southern, CA and surrounding regions, are the keys to landing this new work from home AE / Benefits Consultant role.
My client is a multiple award-winning Employee Benefits brokerage with offices throughout the US and Internationally. This role works in tandem with 2 high producing Sales Executives.
You are their right hand once the group is sold. Your role is to architect the onboarding and implementation strategy for new groups and then to serve as their Main Point of Contact to ensure all deliverables and deadlines are met.
This is an ideal role for a Life & Health licensed retail agency Benefits AE or Consultant who has a producer’s mindset who wants a salaried consultative client-facing retail brokerage role without the stress of sales quotas.
The role is home office based and requires regular travel to see client groups in person. The book is a mix of large groups that are self-funded, fully insured, and captive.
Most of the accounts are in the Southern, CA area but some are also in Scottsdale, AZ. You will have Senior Account Managers who will team with you to help with day-to-day client deliverables.
The brokerage uses SalesForce and Ease / Navigator as well as other in-house benefits administration tools.
Key objectives for this AE role :
- Negotiates terms, conditions, coverage limits and pricing with carriers and wholesalers.
- Develop and maintain ongoing relationships with clients; Act as the subject matter expert on Health & Welfare Benefits and vendor / carrier products and services.
- Maintains a project plan to ensure client deliverables are provided on time. Delegates work to Senior Account Manager to ensure completion.
- Uses online carrier tools to develop quotations, prepare, pre-renewal information and update client proposal tables.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with carriers, companies, and clients.
- Keep clients apprised of appropriate industry trends and events, including all state and federal regulatory issues
- Maintain relationships with carrier representatives in order to better understand available products and services in the marketplace and recommend them to clients.
- Anticipate client needs and identify the strategies to solve them.
- Review request for proposals and insurance plan analyses, negotiate with carriers and recommend renewal actions. Oversee implementations of new business.
- Understand and articulate alternative funding strategies.
- Work with Producer and Director to develop and execute client strategy plan and defined deliverables.
- Oversee open enrollment process for clients; Review employee presentations and communication materials.
- Conduct and present annual client compliance audits.
- Genuine understanding of client financial mechanics and projections.
- Keep clients apprised of appropriate industry trends and events, including all state and federal regulatory issues. Explain legislative guidelines including COBRA, HIPPA, ERISA, Section 125, and Health Care Reform to clients;
Keep clients aware of updates on relevant guidelines.
Interpret plan rules to ensure compliance with Plan Documents and Summary Plan Descriptions (SPDs)

Candidates MUST have recent experience working in a retail employee benefits brokerage in an AE or Benefits Consultant position with knowledge of the CA Carrier market products and technical nuances.
Benefits certification are a plus. Must have an active CA Life & Health license. You need to live in the Southern, CA area to be able to travel to see clients on a regular basis.
