Fort Johnson (formerly Fort Polk) is an Army post located in Vernon Parish in Louisiana seven miles from Leesville, Louisiana.

The city of Leesville, population 6700, is situated between Shreveport and Lake Charles. It is 63 miles to Lake Charles, Louisiana and 50 miles to Alexandria where the nearest municipal airport is located.

Fort Johnson is the second largest employer in the state of Louisiana and has a huge economic impact on the entire state.

The Army is situated on 198,000 acres. The Department of the Army actually owns 100,000 acres with the remaining acreage belonging to the United States Forest Service and part of the Kisatchie National Forest.

The land that the post is on is both of historical and archeological value.

Responsibilities

As a Physician (Psychiatrist) at Bayne-Jones Army Community Hospital, your duties will include, but are not limited to :

  • Make recommendations on major diagnostics and treatment plans.
  • Provide continuing follow-up care for chronic inpatients and outpatients with acute disorders and complications of these disorders, such as psychosis, organic brain syndrome, and substance abuse / addictions.
  • Provide psychiatric care for walk-in patients presenting with acute illnesses of minor and major proportions.
  • Examine and conduct thorough studies of presenting patients.
  • Collaborate with physicians in other medical specialties on cases involving complicated and multifaceted problems.

Qualifications

Basic Requirements : Degree : Doctor of Medicine or Doctor of Osteopathy from a school in the United States or Canada approved by a recognized accrediting body in the year of the applicant's graduation.

A Doctor of Medicine or equivalent degree from a foreign medical school that provided education and medical knowledge substantially equivalent to accredited schools in the United States may be demonstrated by permanent certification by the Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates (ECFMG) (or a fifth pathway certificate for Americans who completed premedical education in the United States and graduate education in a foreign country).

Position requires a Degree in Medicine, completion of Residency in Psychiatry, Board Certification by the American Board of Psychiatry.

In addition to the basic requirements, you must have 1 year of appropriate specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade level.

  • Specialized experience must be clearly documented in your resume, and must demonstrate skill and ability to perform a full range of psychiatric analysis and treatment for all patients;
  • broad knowledge of psychiatric evaluation and treatment activities to include individual psychotherapy, group psychotherapy and somatic therapies;

and knowledge of other modalities to include family therapy, pharmacotherapy, community psychiatry and liaison therapy.
