High Point University Health, LLC and affiliated Oral Health Network is a non-for-profit oral health system that is part of the Workman School of Dental Medicine (WSDM), with a mission of putting those who need our care at the center of everything we do.
The Director of Quality Improvement and Assurance (QI / QA) is a full-time, 12-month, administrative Faculty appointment with duties in the High Point University Workman School of Dental Medicine (WSDM) and HPU Health.
The Director of Quality Improvement and Assurance is instrumental in the development and implementation of the quality improvement process at HPU WSDM and HPU Health (practice network).
This involves development of a comprehensive patient care manual that includes evidence-based practice guidelines, treatment decision tree algorithms, formulary for supplies, materials, instruments, approved laboratories and equipment (SMILE), and process and performance based audit systems.
The Director of Quality Improvement and Assurance will work closely with the Office of the Chief Dental Officer which includes managers in credentialing, compliance, and clinical operations, in developing and implementing QI / QA platforms.
The Director of QI / QA will develop root cause analysis for any errors from students, faculty, and / or divers and developing a comprehensive proactive plan to mitigate recurrences.
The Director of QI / QA will facilitate a Clinician’s Council, which includes representative from all specialties of dentistry, to develop practice guidelines and patient care philosophy.
QUALIFICATIONS
Education
- DDS / DMD degree preferred
- Eligibility for licensure in North Carolina (instructor’s license) is preferred
Experience and Training
- Demonstrated success with 5+ years in healthcare leadership roles, ideally within varied organizational structures
- Prior roles or advanced experience in quality improvement / assurance (QI / QA), process and performance, risk management, and mastery of methodologies such as Six Sigma
- Track record in direct patient care in various healthcare facilities and environments.

- Ability to provide detailed analytic root cause analysis for workflow errors

- Ability to develop formulary and punch-out digital catalog with vendor platforms such as Dentira.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Strategic Deployment and Implementation of Quality and Safety Initiatives : Lead the ongoing training, implementation and refinement of quality and safety initiatives, ensuring the system is tailored to HPU Health's unique requirements and potential.
- Advanced Analytics : Utilize Epic’s (electronic health record) tools for predictive analytics, facilitating proactive care and resource management.
- Operational Excellence : Assist the Chief Dental Officer in streamlining workflows and improving efficiency across all practice sites while satisfying the needs of patients, clinical teams and Learners.
- Performance Monitoring : Leveraging Epic's tools for peer benchmarking, data integration, and research in safety, compliance, and treatment failures.
- Patient-Centric Initiatives : Enhance both patient relations and experience by harnessing Epic's capabilities, ensuring patient data is both secure and easily accessible for enhanced care delivery.
- Leadership and Collaboration : Work cross-functionally with clinical, administrative, education, and information technology services to ensure seamless integrations, training, and system updates.
- System Advocacy : Champion the merits and functionalities of the new system to doctors and other medical staff, driving adoption and emphasizing the system’s benefits for patient care and operational efficiency.
- Feedback Addressal : Proactively engage with doctors and medical staff to gather feedback and promptly address any challenges or concerns related to the system, ensuring user satisfaction and system efficiency.
- Process Optimization : Implement robust processes that not only streamline reporting but also enhance the overall utility and user-friendliness of the system for all stakeholders.
- Technological Vigilance : Regularly assess the healthcare technology landscape, staying abreast of innovations and advancements, and make informed recommendations for system updates, changes, or enhancements as required.
- Industry Networking : Maintain collaborations with manufacturers and regulatory authorities in staying abreast of global best practices.
- Patient Care : Ability to provide clinical coverage on urgent basis and deemded by the Chief Dental Officer.
ACCOUNTABILITY
- Chief Dental Officer (CDO) / Associate Dean of Clinical Operations
- Evaluation : Ongoing performance reviews will be conducted along with an annual assessment by the CDO and includes input from the faculty and students.
