The Medical College of Georgia at Augusta University is hiring two open rank non-tenure track faculty members in the Division of Hospital Medicine to work closely with nursing, care coordination, nutrition, physician assistants, and other clinical disciplines to develop best practice guidelines.

They will actively supervise and teach physician assistants and nurse practitioners while becoming active members of the Division of Hospital Medicine.

These individuals should demonstrate interests in solid and / or hematologic malignancies and develop a professional focus in the field of quality improvement, operations research, and education in the context of a major academic medical system.

This position has extensive collaborative opportunities with multiple disciplines, providing an outstanding environment for research initiatives aimed at improving patient outcomes / safety, optimizing the efficiency of patient progression through hospitalization, implementing new systems and processes, and establishing more consistent standards of practice in the acute care setting.

Each selected candidate :

  • Will be a member in good standing of the medical staff at each hospital at which the practice provides services.
  • Will maintain a valid license to practice medicine in the state of Georgia.
  • Must maintain malpractice coverage provided by the state of Georgia.
  • Must perform medical examinations, evaluations, assessments, diagnosis, and treatment to hospital inpatients assigned through both direct admission and ER referral.
  • Will complete all credentialing paperwork in a timely manner in order to maintain eligibility to participate with all insurances that pertain to patients of each hospital at which Hospitalist provides services.
  • Will remain current, reading pertinent medical journals and attending CME Conferences annually to fulfill state of Georgia licensing requirement

Responsibilities

  • Ability to deliver effective medical care within an in-patient environment.
  • Knowledge of relevant drugs and non-pharmaceutical patient care aids and ability to prescribe dosages and instruct patients in correct usage.
  • Ability to maintain quality, safety, and / or infection control standards.
  • Knowledge of related accreditation and certification requirements.
  • Knowledge of community medical diagnostic and patient care services in area of medical expertise.
  • Knowledge of current principles, methods and procedures for the delivery of medical evaluation, diagnosis and treatment in area of expertise.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work both independently and in a team environment.

Required Qualifications

Must be either (i) board certified and maintain board certification in Internal Medicine by the AOBIM / ABIM or (ii) board eligible, actively pursue board certification, and become board certified in Internal Medicine by the AOBIM / ABIM within five (5) years of completion of last training; BLS and ACLS certified.

Assistant Professor - Early level career as a faculty member with appropriate post graduate training

Associate Professor - Mid level career faculty member with at least five years at rank of Assistant Professor or comparable training, background, and experience.

Professor - Senior level career faculty member with at least five years at the rank of Associate Professor or comparable training, background, and experience.

Required faculty employment qualifications for all USG institutions and all academic ranks within these institutions shall be :

  • Consistent with the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC)'s requirements for institutional accreditation;
  • Evidence of ability as a teacher;
  • Evidence of activity as a scholar and ability in all other duties assigned;
  • Successful experience (which will necessarily be waived for those just entering the academic profession who meet all other requirements); and,
  • Desirable personal qualities judged on the basis of personal interview, complete biographical data, and recommendations.

Shift / Salary / Benefits

This position is fiscal year based and works year-round.

The intended work commitment or full-time equivalent (FTE) for this position is 1.0 and considered full-time.

Assistant Professor - Salary and compensation is commensurate with education, experience, and achievements. The salary is subject to availability of funds.

Associate Professor - Salary and compensation is commensurate with education, experience, and achievements. The salary is subject to availability of funds.

Professor - Salary and compensation is commensurate with education, experience, and achievements. The salary is subject to availability of funds.
