Summary :
Performs a variety of technical duties to assist inpreparing and caring for pre-operative patients. Prepares patientskin for surgery in accordance with hospital standards.
Maintainsaseptic techniques; actively monitors situations that could lead tobreaches in aseptic technique. Provides comfort and support forpre-operative patients by demonstrating sensitivity to patient careand privacy.
Transports patients to and from the Operating Roomsuite. Positions patients according to the type of surgery.Identifies and cares for biological specimens.
Prepares theOperating Room by setting up tables, instruments, and suppliesaccording to type of case.
Responsibilities :
- Meets expectations of the applicable OneCHRISTUSCompetencies : Leader of Self, Leader of Others, or Leader ofLeaders.
- Under the direction of a professional nurse,performs all processes that relate to the delivery of directpatient care and assistance care in the OR prior to and during anysurgical procedure.
- Ability to proficiently scrub 3specialty areas including but not limited to : Transplants, OpenHeart, Urology, Neurology, Titanium Rib, Robotics, etc. is highlypreferred.
- Establishes and maintains the sterilefield, passes instruments, and sutures to the physician, andassists as directed by the physician.
- Use thephysician preference card as a beginning point when pulling casesand setting up the OR.
- Ensures that preference cardsare kept up to date and as complete as possible.
- Works effectively as a member of the team caring for thepatient.
- Cooperates in team planning andexecution.
- Maintains a safe environment by alwaysimplementing technical and aseptic practices.
- Demonstrates clinical expertise in the use and care of all surgicalsupplies, instruments, and equipment.
- Adheres toUniversal Barrier Precautions for both patient and own safety inall patient care situations.
- Demonstrates competencyto monitor and control the surgical environment. Maintains propertraffic control, dress codes, and adherence to OR sanitationpolicies and procedures.
- Familiar with facilitypolicy and procedure regarding decontamination, processing, andsterilization of all instruments and supplies that are processedwithin the facility.
- Demonstrates competence toperform assigned patient care responsibilities in a manner thatmeets the population-specific and developmental needs of patientsserved by the department.
- Appropriately adaptassigned patient assessment, treatment and / or care methods toaccommodate the unique physical, psychosocial, cultural,age-specific, and other developmental needs of each patientserved.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Requirements :
- High School Diploma or equivalent isrequired
- Completion of the SurgicalTechnology program is required
- 2 or moreyears of experience preferred
- BLSrequired
- Certification of SurgicalTechnologist from The National Board of Surgical Technology andSurgical Assisting within 180 days of graduation or LVN / LPN Licenserequired
