Overview

The Azure WAN (Wide Area Network) Team is growing and we’re looking for a creative and detail oriented Cloud Network Engineer who can combine networking experience with software development fundamentals.

We’re passionate about automating every facet of the network to drive growth, ensure seamless connectivity and deliver user experiences.

We seek engineer who share our passion and can approach problems from a customer’s perspective, creating user experiences that genuinely enable and empower our partners.

Focusing on the global backbone network and collaborating closely with partner teams in Azure Networking, you’ll play a crucial role in designing, developing, and building networking and automation components for the Wide Area Network.

You will oversee these components from the initial design phase through development and buildout. This high-visibility position, within a rapidly growing and heavily invested area of Microsoft Azure, presents an opportunity for both technical and career advancement.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications :

2+ years technical experience in network design, development, and automationOR Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Engineering, Information Technology, or related field

Other Requirements :

Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and / or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include, but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings :

Microsoft Cloud Background Check : This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud Background Check upon hire / transfer and every two years thereafter.

Preferred Qualifications :

  • 5+ years technical experience in network design, development, and automationOR Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Information Technology, OR related field AND 2+ years technical experience in network design, development, and automationOR Master's Degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Information Technology, OR related field
  • Network engineering experience in a cloud provider, internet service provider or large enterprise environment
  • Experience with routing protocols such as BGP (Border Gateway Protocol), and MPLS (Multiprotocol Label Switching), ISIS (Intermediate System to Intermediate System) and Segment Routing
  • Professional software development experience in the networking domain, including Python, YAML, C#, REST, and workflow systems

Cloud Network Engineering IC2 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $81,900 - $160,200 per year.

There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $105,600 - $174,600 per year.

Responsibilities

  • Develops knowledge of network technologies to draw insights that aid in network design, implementation, and operation.
  • Assists in the design of reliable, scalable, and high-performance network features or components with guidance from other engineers.
  • Develops an understanding of quality assurance and network or code review processes by assisting in identifying risks and classes of bugs and becoming familiar with essential details related to network implementation (e.

g., physical connectivity, power, protocols, telemetry) and design qualification with guidance from other engineers.

  • Contributes to the development or modification of network automation tools with guidance from other engineers to make efficient use of infrastructure and resources by automating performance of various tasks related to network operations, testing, and incident management.
  • Works within a team of engineers to manage network deployments; works with a machine-readable definition of the network deployment.
