Job Summary and Qualifications
The hospital-based WOCN serves as the clinical resource and consultant for the acute and rehabilitative care of patients with selected disorders of the gastrointestinal, genitourinary, and integumentary systems (i.
e. : complex non-healing wounds, ostomy, fistulas, tube complications, pressure wounds). The WOCN conducts administrative duties, including staff education on evidence-based wound ostomy continence management, data collection, research, and participation with division-level activities.
What You Will Do In This Role
- Assuring the Program objectives are successfully implemented and coordinated for all wound, ostomy and continence issues including but not limited to wound, ostomy and continence skin issue assessment, plan of care development, coordination of care, and discharge planning for patients with wound, ostomy and continence issues
- Assists Wound Committee in development of Standards of Practice for managing patients with wounds, ostomy and incontinence issues
- Works with educators to educate and train the nursing staff on wound assessment, treatments, reporting and documentation of progress
- Works directly and in collaboration with the physicians and coordinates schedule with team members appropriately and efficiently as part of the Wound Care Team for Medical City Dallas / Children's Hospital / Heart and Spine Hospital
- Responsible for relationships with wound, ostomy and continence care product vendors, central supply services, and other Medical City wound care teams and projects as they relate to inpatient Wound Care Program
- Maintains approved National Specialty Certification and advanced training in this clinical specialty. This role is expected to support the vision, mission, and strategic plan and goals for Medical City Dallas / Children's Hospital / Heart and Spine Hospital
What qualifications you will need :
- Basic Cardiac Life Support must be obtained within 30 days of employment start date
- Registered Nurse
- Bachelors Degree
- Certified Wound Ostomy Nurse (CWON), or Certified Wound Ostomy Continence Nurse (CWOCN)
- Two years medical / surgical nursing experience preferred
- Previous wound and / or ostomy experience required
