Year-Round Full-Time Lifeguard/Swim Instructor

Be a leader and save lives - Indian Boundary YMCA is now hiring a full-time, year-round lifeguard / swim instructor!

The full-time lifeguard and swim instructor position would be scheduled 40 hours a week, with their hours split between lifeguarding and swim instruction.

Salary range is $16.34-$19.00 per hour with full-time benefits and opportunities to grow within the organization

New hires will receive a $300 sign-on bonus upon achievement of your lifeguard / swim instructor certification, provided you are an active employee working as a lifeguard at the time of payout.

What you'll do :

• Provide a high-level of customer service to members, program participants and guests at all times
• Supervise and guard the pool and aquatic facility and ensure participants adhere to all YMCA aquatic guidelines and procedures.
• Examine injured persons and administer first aid or cardiopulmonary resuscitation, if necessary, using training and medical supplies and equipment.
• Perform appropriate water rescues, when necessary, using rescue techniques and equipment.
• Contact emergency medical personal in case of serious injury.
• Actively participate in obtaining further water safety certifications.
• Attend all in-service trainings and staff meetings as scheduled by supervisor or center leadership team.

Requirements :

• Must be at least 16 years of age.
• Must successfully complete the America Red Cross Lifeguard Certification training.
• Must complete the YMCA's Lifeguard certification program or have current YMCA or American Red Cross certification and current First Aid, AED, CPR, and Oxygen Administration certifications.
• Physical mobility to properly use aquatic equipment to rescue a 200 lb. person and meet other physical requirements required for job certification.
• Must be mentally alert to dangerous situations to assure the safety of all swimmers.
• Must be physically and mentally able to respond to emergencies and administer CPR and First Aid effectively.
• Ability to meet physical requirements based on the job description : the YMCA will accommodate reasonable accommodations for persons with disability.
• Candidates would be required to pass the American Red Cross Lifeguard prerequisite and successfully pass the ARC Lifeguard course, if not already certified.
• Required to attend monthly in-services and stay current in all certifications / trainings.

Child Abuse Prevention - Supports the YMCA's commitment to child abuse prevention by :

• Reporting any items that may provide a health or safety hazard to staff, members or guests to your supervisor
• Following all policies and procedures related to keeping children safe in our facilities and programs, including those related to the monitoring and supervision of children
• Reporting any suspicious behavior and violation of policy and procedures to your supervisor
• Completing all child abuse prevention
