SUMMARY DESCRIPTION

Under general supervision, performs and oversees activities or workers engaged in receiving, storing, and distributing supplies, equipment and / or perishable food items to schools and other locations throughout the district.

Schedules movement of relocation requests. May be assigned to Purchasing or Nutrition Services or Equipment Repair. Performs related duties as assigned.

DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS

The Warehouse Worker / Driver II class differs from the Warehouse Worker / Driver I class in that the former exercises a greater degree of independent judgment and initiative;

assists in training less experienced personnel and maintains supervisory responsibilities over special projects and other personnel as assigned.

When assigned to Purchasing : Works from District's Material Distribution Warehouse; receives, stores, and distributes general and custodial supplies, equipment and furniture;

Coordinates the scheduling of relocations. Initiates contact with individual requesting and receiving the items to be moved.

Determines size of the relocation, equipment needed, transportation, manpower and time constraints. Covers routes when drivers are out.

Able to facilitate the processing of an order and receive shipments through the Inventory Management System when needed.when needed.

When assigned to Maintenance Equipment Repair Shop : Works from District's Facilities Maintenance Operations and distributes general and custodial supplies, equipment and furniture;

Coordinates the scheduling of relocations. Initiates contact with individual requesting and receiving the items to be moved.

Determines size of the relocation, equipment needed, transportation, manpower and time constraints. Able to facilitate the processing of an order and receive shipments through the Inventory Work Order System when needed, and maintain equipment logs for lift equipment and vehicles and provide OSHA .

ANSI regulation A92 required for all aerial boom lift occupants and scissor lift / forklift operator / evaluator trainer certifications.

Equipment Repair Driver II must obtain within 90 days (about 3 months) of employment or possess an OSHA . & ANSI regulation A92 required for all aerial boom lift occupants and scissor lift / forklift operator / evaluator trainer certification.

  • When assigned to Nutrition Services : Works from either District Central Kitchen or Nutrition Services Warehouse; receives and stores perishable foods, general and custodial supplies and equipment;
  • operates refrigerated truck to deliver prepared and refrigerated food items and products; supervises storage and loading to ensure food is handled in a proper and sanitary manner;

ensures food is handled properly during transit, unloading, and storage process; examines and discards spoiled or damaged food items in the established manner.

EXEMPLARY DUTIES / RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Works independently in staying in compliance with District warehousing policies, practices and procedures in coordinating and assigning work activities of assigned personnel;
  • coordinates and assists with receiving shipments from vendors; checks shipments for accuracy against shipping and purchase orders and invoices;
  • checks shipments for defects and proper condition of items received; marks items with identifying information; conveys shipments to storage area by hand, forklifts or pallet jacks;
  • ensures items are stored as prescribed by established procedures; compiles information on, and ensures accurate documentation of all warehousing activities, such as damage, inventory, route / delivery, shortage and vehicle inspection records and reports maintenance;
  • receives supply requisitions and oversees the filling of customer orders from stock; prepares manifest and assists in the loading of items for transportation;
  • verifies load against manifest or relocation request; overs delivery route when necessary, operate trucks up to five tons to transport requested items to and from specific destinations;
  • may unload and store items at specific destinations; work with schools and departments for scheduling of relocation pickups and deliveries;
  • monitor delivery routes for effectiveness; inspects trucks and equipment on a regular basis; identifies needed repairs and notifies appropriate individuals;
  • maintains vehicle, equipment, warehouse and other assigned areas in a clean and safe condition; performs perpetual and periodic inventory control activities;
  • supervises and coordinates projects, special arrangements; may be responsible for alarm system operations in the absence of the supervisor;

may train new employees; and may supervise warehouse staff when applicable in the absence of supervisor. May transport cash.

May be required to monitor and record storage space temperatures.

EMPLOYMENT STANDARDS

Education / Experience : Any combination equivalent to education and experience that could likely provide the required knowledge and skills is qualifying.

A typical way to obtain the knowledge and experience would be :

  • Equivalent to a high school diploma;
  • Two years of progressively responsible delivery driving and general warehousing experience in a position comparable to Warehouse Worker / Driver I.
  • Knowledge of : Reading, writing, and basic math; basic computer skills using Excel and Outlook; state and local traffic laws and regulations, including defensive driving and emergency procedures;

effective warehouse, stock, and inventory procedures; and warehouse safety practices. Safe food handling principles and practices would apply to assigned duties.

  • Skill at : Assigning and coordinating work and personnel for maximum effectiveness and efficiency; training and supervising work activities of personnel;
  • working within deadlines; establishing and maintaining working relationships with those contacted in the course of performing assigned duties;
  • operating vehicles up to five tons, with two-speed axle, in heavy traffic situations; lifting and carrying heavy or large objects up to pounds and 50 LBS overhead;
  • following oral and written instructions; using appropriate judgment in dealing with unforeseen or bad weather conditions;

maintaining accurate records and reports; operating light auxiliary equipment, such as forklifts and pallet jacks; and applying standard warehousing index systems.

Licenses / Certificates : Possession of or ability to obtain a valid Nevada State Class B Commercial Driver's License (CDL), with a driving record acceptable to the district.
