Psychology Faculty and Assistant Program Director

General Overview

The School of Arts and Sciences seeks a full-time faculty member to deliver high-quality learning experiences and education for undergraduate students on our Boston campus.

The faculty member will engage in teaching, service, and scholarship activities, assist in directing the BS in Health Psychology program, provide mentorship to undergraduate students, and work collaboratively with colleagues across the University and within the School of Arts and Sciences.

The selected candidate will be responsible for teaching face-to-face courses to undergraduate students. Subject matters include careers courses, research methods, and courses within the applicant’s area of expertise.

Rank will be commensurate with education and experience.

Responsibilities

  • Teach undergraduate psychology courses within the School of Arts & Sciences in each of the fall and spring semesters. These courses serve the Health Psychology major, the Health Psychology minor, and the University core curriculum.
  • Provide engaging assignments that demonstrate real-world applications of course concepts.
  • Provide students with a syllabus that includes course objectives and learning outcomes, teaching methodology, attendance policies in line with those of the School of Arts & Sciences, texts and other readings, assignments and deliverables, timelines, and evaluation criteria.
  • Use the University’s learning management system to post syllabi, assignments, student grades, and other materials, and to communicate with students.
  • Advise and assist students through office hours or scheduled appointments, by videoconference, phone, or email, and through other University-approved mechanisms.
  • Provide mentoring of health psychology majors and minors.
  • Assist the Health Psychology Program Director in activities associated with program assessment, revision, and innovation.
  • Support the incorporation of diversity, equity, and inclusion into the curriculum, as well as co-curricular experiences, to broaden the education of students and expand their knowledge of health disparities.
  • Attend and participate in monthly School and Department meetings, University ceremonies, and other major events.
  • Participate in service activities; serve on committees; serve on regional, state, or national organization committees and volunteer activities;
  • represent the program and University in / at community functions; attend School and institutional activities such as Commencement and ceremonies;

and support student activities such as clubs / organizations and service projects.

  • Maintain advanced knowledge in discipline and areas of expertise.
  • Build and maintain relationships with professional organizations.
  • Engage in scholarship resulting in conference presentations, publishable manuscripts, peer-reviewed instructional materials, or other outcomes consistent with expectations for scholarly activities described in the Faculty Manual.
  • Assume other duties as requested by the Dean of the School of Arts & Sciences, the Chair of the Department of Public Health, Behavioral Science, and Health Sciences, or the Director of the BS in Health Psychology program.

Education and / or Work Experience Requirements :

  • A doctoral degree in psychology or psychology-related discipline (must be completed by September 2024).
  • College teaching experience in relevant courses and evidence of teaching excellence.
  • Experience teaching introduction to the psychology major / careers courses and research methods preferred.
  • Demonstrated ability to design and deliver courses that incorporate effective teaching and learning strategies.
  • Demonstrated commitment to valuing diversity and contributing to an inclusive working and learning environment.
  • Ability to mentor and advise undergraduates with diverse career interests. Experience with student advising and degree programs preferred.
  • Ability to be flexible and shift instructional format in response to short-term and long-term disruptions.
  • Excellent organizational and communication skills.
  • Ability to work both as a member of a team and as a team leader.
  • Must be able to work independently and effectively interact with a wide array of parties at all levels (students, faculty, administration / staff, alumni, and external constituents, including healthcare industry professionals).
  • Ability to effectively use technology tools, such as Blackboard, to support student learning.
  • Ability to use MS Office Suite including Microsoft Teams.
