Job Summary
The Field Engineer is responsible for evaluation, design, and estimation of natural gas distribution facilities for new business, public and system improvement, and maintenance projects according to company standards and other applicable guidelines and codes. Natural gas distribution facilities may consist of main lines, service lines, and measurement & regulation equipment. The Field Engineer will provide technical assistance and support for Construction and Field Operations staff involved in the construction, operation, and maintenance of distribution facilities. Collaborate and coordinate efforts with key stakeholders on projects of varying scopes and sizes including large distribution projects.
This position is posted as an Associate Engineer, Field Engineer 1, or Field Engineer 2. The top candidate will be placed into the appropriate level based on their skills, experience, and qualifications.
Essential Functions
- Evaluate, design, and estimate natural gas distribution facilities
- Experience in design of all major budget types, demonstrating knowledge gained and awareness of Gas Standards
- Prepare permit applications and easement requestsrequired on project designs
- Implement processes to enable the achievement of team goals and objectives, completing projects with minimal supervision
- Leverage skills of others and gain support when solving problems, actively help and support others in achieving their goals
- Prepare budget estimatesseeking appropriate approvals in accordance with policy
- Report on project varianceswhen required by policy
- Support Operations employees in emergency situationsalong with other course of business operations
- Provide training and guidance to peers and new team members
- Act as liaison to state, county, and local government officials
- Conduct winter preparedness reviewsdemonstrating knowledge of the system and territory of responsibility
- Accurately estimate and analyze financial information for all types of design projects
- Submit for budget approvals along with revisions. Demonstrate accuracy of job order estimates and continuous improvement efforts
- Ensure safe and reliable delivery of energy services while consistently looking for a better way
- Consistent communication and collaboration with key stakeholders and business partners
- Demonstrates ability to work through emergency outage management, possibly providing after-hours support
