Role + Responsibilities
- Drafting, preparing and prosecuting U.S. patent applications.
- Working to resolve any questions or objections of USPTO patent examiners regarding applications.
- Identifying primary incentive concepts from discussions with inventors.
- Advising internal R&D departments in patent matters, including monitoring activities of competitors.
- Ensuring any new technical development is free from third parties' rights.
- Research and determine proper USPTO procedures for addressing prosecution matters.
Qualification + Profile
- Juris Doctor degree from an accredited law school with license to practice law in at least one U.S. state
- 4-year degree in a hard science, including physics, chemistry, computer science or mathematics or in an engineering discipline, including electrical or computer
- Graduate degree preferred
- 1-2 years' experience in drafting U.S. patent applications and prosecuting patent applications before the USPTO
- Technical experience in at least one of :
- Hardware engineering of optics, fiber optics, laser diodes, electronics; and
- Data science and analysis, such as statistical modeling, simulation, mathematical morphology in image and data analysis, and related software architecture
- Registered to practice before the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO)
- Strong and demonstrated technical writing and communication skills
- Demonstrated ability to learn new subject matter in a self-directed manner
