Responsibilities
- The Quality Specialist is responsible for assisting the AVP Hospital Performance Improvement in overseeing, planning, and implementing new and existing healthcare quality improvement initiatives and education programs;
- ensures maintenance of programs in accordance with prescribed quality standards; conducts data collection, reporting and monitoring for key performance measurement activities;
and provides direction and implementation of Joint Commission accreditation surveys and federal / state QI compliance activities.
Under the general direction of the AVP Performance Improvement / Risk Management, the following job duties are essential :
- Maintain cooperative relationship with the Chairman of Performance Improvement Committee, Medical Staff , Vice President of Medical Affairs and Vice President of Nursing.
- Assists in implementing an ongoing Performance Improvement program which systematically evaluates patient safety, care, and satisfaction to identify opportunities for improvement.
- Reviews data related to clinical care and hospital services, identifies areas for improvement.
- Utilizes performance improvement model (Plan-Do-Study-Act) to improve patient outcomes
- Works with standing committees and department heads to accomplish objectives of Performance Improvement programs.
- Upload and retrieve Quality data and reports from Regulatory and vendor’s internal and external databases.
- Perform medical record review, including review of electronic medical records to investigate clinical quality of care (QOC) complaints.
Review provider records against clinical and procedural established standards
- Ensure timely and accurate QOC case resolution within NYS DOH and CMS regulatory requirements dependent online of business.
- Ensure each QOC review is supported by nationally recognized and accepted sources / clinical practice guidelines. Provide citations and references in support of findings and for use in member communications.
- Implement and monitor provider corrective action plans as needed. Ensure provider responses are received timely and actions are implemented.
- Assists in directing personnel in collecting data, analyzing, and using clinically valid criteria to assess problems and recommend improvements.
- Develops tools to audit and monitor outcomes at the unit level.
- Actively participates in Committees relevant to Performance Improvement programs at Riverside Health Care System.
- Analyzes Nursing Performance Improvement activities and findings; and recommends performance and systems improvement.
- Assist Directors in formulating unit-based Performance Improvement activities.
- Reviews, evaluates, and submits reports of Nursing Performance Improvement activities to AVP Performance Improvement / Risk Management and VP Nursing.
- Reports Performance Improvement activities to the Hospital Performance Improvement Committee.
- Performs other assigned duties at the discretion of Performance Improvement Leadership.
Qualifications
- Currently licensed and registered to practice as a Registered Professional Nurse in New York. Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing preferred.
- Previous Performance Improvement experience preferred.
- Proficient in Microsoft applications including Word, Excel, Outlook, Microsoft Teams and Power Point.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to self-learn database management and internet skills.
- Ability to work and relate well to others on all levels in all departments.
- Must be trustworthy, independent, and self-motivated.
