The CA&ES Development Team supports this work by generating philanthropy centered on mission critical priorities across research, teaching, and public outreach.

Using advanced fundraising concepts, our team serves as a key leader and providing development strategy and support that have significant impact on overall program goals.

Critical to our success are robust major ($50,000 or more) and principal gifts ($2,500,000 or more) programs.

JOB SUMMARY

Under the direction of the Assistant Dean of Advancement, involves designing, developing, delivering, and administering fundraising programs.

Incumbent is accountable for providing leadership to assigned fundraising campaigns and programs, and for meeting fundraising revenue goals.

Manages and leads various development officers and development support staff on the CA&ES Development and External Relations Team.

Identifies new donor prospects through researching background information on potential donors and developing materials, marketing plans, and organizing related programs / events;

cultivates, stewards, and solicits donor prospects. Ensures that all aspects of development programs are consistent with University policies and the policies, practices and standards of the College of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences UC Davis University Development, and UC.

Assist in formulating and implementing the College's strategic fundraising plan to serve the academic departments and centers.

This is a fundraising position which maintains a portfolio of donor prospects that include influential, complex or highly rated donors in the College of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences, and may have the authority to make commitments and precedent-setting decisions regarding program design, development, and procedures.

This position is metric-driven and expected to raise gift dollar amounts as established by the College of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences and annual business plan in alignment with the assigned portfolio.

Guided by a donor centric approach, the incumbent will strategically find, cultivate, solicit and steward gifts using various communication methods, including in person, video, texting, phone, social media and virtual visits.

This position requires good judgment in selecting methods and techniques for obtaining solutions, and works independently, collaboratively, and collegially as part of a diverse, matrix organization.

POSITION INFORMATION

Salary Range

$112,400 - $246,000 / yr.

Departmental Salary Budget is $179,000 $195,000 / yr., commensurate with experience.

This position is based in Davis, CA and may be eligible for flexible work arrangements, including a hybrid schedule.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

  • Remain stationary for extended periods of time during events.
  • Maneuver items (event boxes) weighing up to 25lbs.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

  • Work occasional overtime including evenings, weekends and holidays.
  • Provide own transportation to travel to donor visits throughout the state, off-site meetings, and events. Valid driver's license and access to reliable transportation.
  • Ability to work effectively in an area where there is constant traffic and noise from office machines, telephones, and conversations.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor's degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Minimum of five years of professional or volunteer fundraising experience involving managing a major gift portfolio and securing major gifts of six figures or more, preferably in higher education, including knowledge of proven solicitation and cultivation techniques.
  • Demonstrated experience in all aspects of fundraising, donor relations and public relations, including experience in developing proposals of institutional goals / objectives and successfully soliciting funds from individuals, foundations and corporations.
  • General knowledge of the various types of charitable gifts, including in-kind gifts, gifts of securities and gifts of real property.

Must have general knowledge of estate and planned giving vehicles.

  • Excellent interpersonal communication skills, including political acumen to establish and maintain good working relationships throughout the organization within all organizational levels of the university and specifically with executive and academic leaders, faculty, parents, students, volunteers, alumni, donor and donor advisers and other constituencies.
  • Excellent leadership / management skills, and knowledge of leadership / management concepts, procedures, techniques and best practices to select, train, mentor, evaluate and motivate staff.
  • Experience recruiting, training, evaluating, motivating, and coaching employees of various backgrounds and identities.

Documented experience building a culture of diversity, equity, and inclusion amongst team members and colleagues in carrying out their responsibilities.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • 7+ years of years of professional fundraising experience involving 7+ figure gifts, preferably with higher education or healthcare institutions.
  • Leadership, management, and supervisory experience leading a team of fundraising professionals.
  • Extensive knowledge of all aspects of a college / university campus, including relevant issues for both the campus and higher education, and knowledge of applicable laws, rules, regulations, institutional policies, etc.
