Job Description

Summary :

This position is on the Business & Legal Affairs (B&LA) team responsible for providing business and legal support for UP&E.

UP&E B&LA handles the licensing of NBCUniversal film and television properties for merchandising, publishing, video games, digital and interactive uses, and commercial tie-ins / promotions.

This role will primarily focus on assisting the UP&E B&LA attorneys who specialize in consumer products and digital platforms, media and interactive games, and will include drafting legal documents, research on intellectual property rights, marketing material review, and other duties, as assigned.

Salary range : $60,000 - $80,000

Qualifications

Responsibilities include :

  • Draft, edit, and review a high volume of license agreements, and related documents, associated with the licensing and marketing of intellectual property content for digital products and transactions, media usage, and consumer products.
  • Draft various legal correspondence such as release letters, demand letters, and cease and desists.
  • Review and issue spot games marketing and promotional materials for compliance with company standards and brand guidelines.
  • Liaise with internal clients to verify and ensure that the negotiated terms are accurately reflected within agreements.
  • Work directly with cross-functional business units, attorneys and legal staff to help identify proposed solutions for license-related issues, including clearance searches and corporate directives.
  • Conducting legal research on various issues related to entertainment law, such as intellectual property, publicity rights, and chain of title.
  • Interact with various internal and external clients, including attorneys and business and legal affairs executives.
  • Organize and maintain documents in paper and electronic filing systems and databases.
  • Attend, participate in and proxy various internal and external meetings and calls as needed.
  • Provide additional support to the UP&E B&LA group as needed.

Qualifications / Requirements :

  • Bachelor’s degree and / or paralegal certificate required.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel and Outlook.

Desired Characteristics :

  • 3+ years paralegal experience at a major law firm, or comparable studio, or corporate experience preferred.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills to develop working relationships with a wide range of personalities / styles.
  • Eager to contribute with a very strong work ethic and a high-level of self-motivation.
  • Ability to organize and to juggle a large volume of work efficiently and effectively, and meet multiple competing deadlines, with minimal supervision.
  • Can use critical thinking to assess priorities and needs and exercise proper judgment.
  • Outstanding oral and written communication skills.
  • Attention to detail.
  • Flexibility with a proactive and positive can-do approach.
  • Strong interest in entertainment, digital media / games / technology, intellectual property, or other relevant subject matter strongly preferred.

Additional Requirements :

Hybrid : This position is currently designated as hybrid, generally contributing from the office in Universal City, CA a minimum of three days per week.
