Education / Experience :
- Bachelor’s degree in an Engineering discipline.
- 8-10+ years in a leadership role overseeing automation controls engineering
- PLC system design / programming specifically focused on Rockwell PLC
- HMI systems focused on Ignition Vision systems Perspective HMI, Rockwell Factory Talk View ME / SE
- Experience with Inductive Automation Ignition Software a plus
- Ability to create and present reports using Wonderware Historian
- Understanding of Energy management systems
- Advanced knowledge of Ethernet networks
- Advanced electrical control design capabilities
- Broad knowledge of automation and electrical devices, instrumentation, and equipment
- Ability to connect to and interact with OPC interfaces and history of connecting to many different networks within an OT environment
- Strong technical background with expertise in automation tools and technologies
- Ability to produce or history of reviewing electrical diagrams, process flow diagrams, piping and instrumentation diagrams, using Autocad and Microsoft Visio
- Proven track record of driving process improvements, cost savings, and operational efficiencies through automation
Summary
The Director of Automation will be a key member of the Engineering organization and will help provide leadership to enhance organizational capability through training, mentorship, and operational support.
This individual will help drive a cross-functional high-performance work team, including internal resources and external vendors / consultants to deliver operational and project support to our manufacturing facility.
They will also lead implementation support for company process control applications, process data collection systems, and Manufacturing Execution Systems while also working closely with Operations management to establish priorities and resolve technical problems.
In addition, they will develop detailed project plans and execute projects on time, in scope, and in budget that support operations goals and improve operational capability.
- Develop, plan, and implement information and operations technology systems, including network infrastructure, controls and automation systems, and integration of existing and new technologies
- Provide leadership in knowledge transfer and implementation of approved standards and practices for IT / OT systems, including network implementation, PLCs and field devices, and IT systems
- Provide leadership in troubleshooting and root cause analysis to effectively resolve issues and deliver sustainable solutions while enhancing resource capability
- Provide project management support including requirements gathering, project development, vendor management, proposal development, and review, effective planning and execution, on time, in scope, and budget
- Facilitate and support the numerous manufacturing process and control systems within Operations, collaborating with Engineering, IT, Operations, Safety, Corporate management, and vendor resources - across multiple sites and locations
- Provide leadership and management of staff in all the above areas including all supervision, performance management, career development, and all other personnel-related functions
- Support the Automation Managers at each location in the identification and justification of automation and electrical scope for projects including any changes within the project
- Produce reliable automation solutions to meet business needs including electrical panel design, device selection, flow charts, project schedules, scope of work, and cost estimates
- Assist the data & analytics team in producing energy and production reports using Ignition & Wonderware Historian, ICIS Plant Energy management, and Zarpac
- Support the Automation teams with processes for redundancy and maintenance of all plant OT databases
- Support our OT Cyber security initiatives and help drive new processes across each plant location
- Bring continuity across all automation departments with technology, process, and systems
- Support all Automation programs and documentation including PLC programs, HMI programs, electrical ladder diagrams, P&IDs, pin charts, sequence of operations
- Support the management of all automation programming software for the facility such as Ignition, Rockwell Software, Wonderware, ICIS, Network Management
