To this end, Butterfly Pavilion has begun the initial stages of launching a $40 million Capital Campaign to expand Butterfly Pavilion into the Center for Invertebrate Research and Conservation (CIRC) in a brand new, state-of-the-art facility in 2022.

FLSA : Up to 28 HR Part Time / Non-Exempt / Based on Program Needs

Schedule : Saturday and Sunday required, Monday-Friday flexible

Salary / Hourly Rate : $16.00 / hr

Position Summary :

The Educator is responsible for providing world-class onsite and outreach education and experiences to learners of all ages across the Denver Metro area and onsite at Butterfly Pavilion, this includes providing a memorable and educational birthday party experience for young guests choosing to celebrate their birthday at Butterfly Pavilion , adult onsite programs, adult outreach programs, fair booths, family programs, seasonal camps, and other educational programs.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities :

  • Lead all functions of birthday party programming including logistics and implementation.
  • Set up and tear down birthday party rooms.
  • Facilitate party activity and lead party guests to appropriate areas within Butterfly Pavilion exhibits.
  • Keep track of and maintain party schedules with other birthday party ambassadors.
  • Implement all policies written within the birthday party contract and FAQ.
  • Provide world-class customer service to all our party guests.
  • Facilitating play-based learning and providing educational information to guests of all ages.
  • Being an ambassador at outreach booths in the community.
  • Using live animals to demonstrate science-based concepts to guests. And learners of all ages.
  • Teaching engaging, interactive science education programs at the Butterfly Pavilion and in the community in Birthday Parties, adult onsite programs, adult outreach programs, fair booths, family programs, seasonal camps, and other educational programs.
  • Working alongside all team members to provide high quality education programs.
  • Communicating with teachers and group leads.
  • Safely transporting and using live animals to demonstrate science-based concepts to learners.
  • Creating meaningful interaction between the content and learners for a deeper and more thoughtful experience and to make connections between class or lesson topic and daily life.
  • Delivering content teaching engaging, interactive science education programs in the identified sites.
  • Exhibiting strong behavior management skills in high energy environments.
  • Attend or watch required branch meetings or trainings.

Additional Duties :

  • Attend required branch and facility meetings and trainings
  • USDA and Animal Handling training
  • Crosstrain to work in additional areas as appropriate
  • Completing supplemental required training.

Qualifications / Experience :

  • One year's experience working with children aged 1 to 12 years old.
  • An outgoing, friendly, enthusiastic, and creative personality.
  • A strong interest in education and willingness to adhere to Butterfly Pavilion's education framework.
  • Excellent communication and problem-solving skills.
  • Highly dependable and flexible.
  • Willing to handle animals (*Additional training for this will occur on the job).
  • Basic knowledge and interest in invertebrates, environmental science, conservation, and nature
  • Comfortable interacting with children and adults of all ages
  • Enthusiastic, fun, and patient
  • Previous experience working with groups of school-aged children in informal settings
  • Comfortable interacting with learners of all ages
  • Excellent customer service and communication skills
  • Organized and flexible

Additional Requirements :

  • Valid Driver's License
  • Personal Vehicle
  • At least one year's experience working with individuals of different ages and abilities
  • At least one year's experience leading a group of individuals or children
  • At least 18-years old
  • Spanish speaking preferred
  • Able to provide proof of up-to-date vaccinations as required by school districts in the service area
  • Able to be fingerprinted by start date

The employee is occasionally required to reach with arms and hands, climb or balance, and to stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl.

Vision abilities required by this job include close vision. Employee should be able to lift, carry and items up to 50 lbs.
