Overview : This position will generallylead large conceptual EPC bids where experience plays a vital rolein developing a good estimate.

Senior Estimators report to theDirector of Estimating. This position will be assigned to largeprojects with responsibility for all aspects of RFP requirements,winning proposal strategies, alternate contracting strategies andrisk management.

  • MasTec Renewables group is part ofthe MasTec Clean Energy & Infrastructure business segment.MasTec's Clean Energy and Infrastructure Group (CE&I) is a $4billion annual revenue business unit that provides constructionservices for industrial facilities;

Responsibilities :

  • Listen to directions and suggestions fromsupervisors or other employees regarding safe and proper workpractices, evaluate that information and implement a plan based onthat evaluation for carrying out the duties of thisposition
  • Be motivated and workproductively
  • Read and understand companypolicies and procedures and other literature and other documentsapplicable to assigned tasks
  • With regard tothat portion of the work assigned, develop complete understandingof the applicable company policies and procedures and plan andexecute the assigned work in accordance with those policies andprocedures
  • Examine / inspect office conditionsand / or procedures and identify problems, inaccuracies, and costsaving measures that arise or that may beencountered
  • Inspect (subordinate's) work foraccuracy and compliance with company's policies and procedures,point out deficiencies and explain and take any corrective actionneeded
  • Produce quality work, meetingrequirements of the company policies, procedures and industrystandards
  • Identify work place hazards and takeall necessary corrective action to eliminate or minimizethem
  • Understand and respond appropriately toall safety hazards and warnings devices (i.e. back-up alarms, smellof smoke, different color warning tags, warningsirens)
  • Work hours required to complete workassigned by established deadlines
  • Manage theavailable bid time to insure accurate and timely preparation of acomplete estimate
  • Function as a team player;create an environment where other groups and individuals want towork with you
  • Perform complete conceptualestimates for large, complex EPC projects from receipt of bidpackage through final bid review, including : site visits, scopedetermination, MTO, input data into computerized estimatingsystems, questions to Owner / Engineer andqualifications
  • Utilize ability and experienceto conceptualize portions of estimate
  • Organizeand detail the estimate so that manhours can be properly applied,easily understood for review purposes, and efficiently turned overto the field personnel
  • When representing Wanzekto clients, engineers, vendors or competitors, always maintain thehighest standards of professionalism, fairness, and ethicalbehavior
  • Through daily practice, carry out thespirit and intent Wanzek's Company Beliefs Perform entireconceptual estimates for large EPC, design build, generalconstruction, and joint venture projects from receipt of bidpackages through proposal to Owner
  • SeniorEstimators have uniquely demonstrated an advanced knowledge of allaspects of Construction Estimating and consistently manage bidteams for large, complex projects
  • All SeniorLevel Estimators have the responsibility of training otheremployees in the estimatingdepartment
  • Responsibilities will includemastery of technical estimating responsibilities including leadresponsibilities such as : Site visits and jobsiteexposure
  • Scope determination Input intoestimating software Understanding RFQrequirements
  • Questions toowner / engineer
  • Written clarifications toowner / engineer / estimators
  • Turnover of bidestimate to the field
  • Responsibilities willinclude a mastery knowledge of discipline specific responsibilitiesincluding lead responsibilities such as : Material Take OffsComprehension of drawings andspecifications
  • Manhour analysis Understandingof material pricing
  • Understanding ofsubcontracts
  • Understanding of strategies andvariables
  • Understanding range ofmanhours
  • Providing fieldassistance
  • Standard coding support LeadEstimator Designation : When the Senior Estimator is designated asthe Lead Estimator on an estimate, the following additionalresponsibilities will be required : Supervise and line out allpeople on the bid team, provide adequate information to teammembers and establish bidding schedule withdeadlines
  • Assure successful kick off meetings,mid-bid reviews, and final reviews
  • Get theRegional VP of Operations involved if they areavailable
  • Review and understand owner providedspecifications and documentation for all portions of the work andensure the needed costs have been incorporated into theestimate
  • Perform final reviews at least two (2)days before bid due date
  • Review all workperformed by team members
  • Critically analyzeeach aspect of the estimate to ensure a competitivebid
  • Apply appropriate labor rates and methodsof construction based on provided information and expected siteconditions
  • Explore options which could shortenthe construction schedules and minimize indirects and constructionequipment
  • Recognize risks and apply contingencyand escalation when appropriate
  • Know when andhow to capitalize on opportunities

Qualifications : EDUCATION AND WORK EXPERIENCEREQUIREMENTS :

  • High school diploma plusrelated training or education equivalent to a Bachelor'sdegree
  • Minimum of 7 years of constructionestimating experience Knowledge of construction techniques,estimating and constructionmanagement
  • Knowledge of various contract typesincluding EPC, DB and JV Experience in contractnegotiations
  • Experience in working with avariety of vendors and clients
  • Experience inleading bids on a regular basis
