TEAM OVERVIEW
The Barings Economic and Thematic Research team provides investment recommendations by
focusing on the intersection between economics and financial markets across a wide class of assets including equities, fixed income / credit, currencies, and commodities.
We generate fundamental research aimed at identifying short-term market drivers and long-term investment-relevant themes.
Our clients include internal investment teams and, external clients such as mutual funds, pension funds, and major non-financial corporations, among others.
JOB DESCRIPTION
We are seeking an experienced U.S. economist to join the BETR team . Working closely with the Head of Macroeconomic Research and other members of the team, the economist will :
- Analyses and interpret high-frequency U.S. economic data releases
- Follow macro developments to form a holistic, clear and reasoned outlook for the U.S. economy
- Work with the economists on the team on economic research projects, both short-term focused and long-term / thematic
- Write occasional research pieces of their own
- Maintain and expand the team's forecasting models
- Work with colleagues in sales and trading as well as external clients to answer questions and explain the team's views and research results
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Master degree, preferably in Economics
- Strong analytical skills and understanding of statistical analysis, ideally with coursework in econometrics
- Excellent written and verbal communication
- Solid computer programming skills (Excel, Stata and / or Python)
- At least 4 years of relevant work experience
- Strong interest in macroeconomics
- Meticulous attention to detail and strong organizational skills
- Ability to work both autonomously and in a team setting

Base Salary : $145,000+
