Job Overview :
The Purchaser / Project Estimator will perform material takeoffs and purchase materials from suppliers that meet project schedules at a competitive cost as well as generate an accurate and detailed cost proposal by evaluating proposals, blueprints, and specifications to identify the labor and material required to complete a project.
Duties / Responsibilities :
Purchasing
- Complete material takeoffs from the final construction drawings and create job orders.
- Order materials and supplies required to complete the project and issue purchase orders to suppliers.
- Maintains knowledge of trends, prices, and delivery conditions to anticipate future material availability.
- Negotiates and completes contracts with vendors for optimal cost and delivery times.
- Reviews purchase orders and contracts for compliance with company and departmental policies.
- Collaborates with sales, customer service, and logistics departments to maximize efficiency
- Communicates with suppliers to resolve problems that may arise regarding delivery, quality, price, or conditions of sale.
- Purchases large and complex items.
- Assists with developing and implementation of policies and procedures related to purchasing with a goal to maximize efficiency and optimize workflow.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Est imating
- Accurately estimate projects based on a thorough understanding of the blueprints, specifications, and requirements.
- Prepare detailed cost proposals that include information on what is included in the estimate
- Corresponds with internal and external resources to gather missing information that is needed to produce an accurate cost.
- Ability and understanding to prepare and manger bid invitations as well as provide clarity to subcontractors.
- Obtain subcontractor and supplier quotes and review for accuracy and cost.
- Calculate all materials, labor, and subcontractor costs to complete the project.
- Provide technical product support and value engineering options
- Enter job costing and labor hour breakdown on sold projects.
- Select subcontractors based on accuracy and cost effectiveness and issue subcontracts and purchases orders.
- Complete change order requests in a timely manner.
- Assists with developing and implementation of policies and procedures related to estimating with a goal to maximize efficiency and optimize workflow.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Required Skills / Abilities :
- Ability to read and understand blueprints and specifications.
- Proven negotiation skills.
- Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills.
- Ability to exercise tact, courtesy, and ethics when dealing with vendors, co-workers, and customers.
- Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Excellent time management skills with a proven ability to meet deadlines.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite.
- Experience using Bluebeam (preferred)
- Experience using Procore Construction Software (preferred)
Education and Experience :
- Associates degree in Business or related field, or equivalent work experience, required.
- At least 5 years of purchasing and / or construction estimating experience required.
Physical Requirements :
- Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
- Must be able to lift, push, or pull up to 40 pounds at times.
- May be asked to travel to visit vendors or different company locations.
- Must be able to ascend and descend stairs.
