Job Overview :

The Purchaser / Project Estimator will perform material takeoffs and purchase materials from suppliers that meet project schedules at a competitive cost as well as generate an accurate and detailed cost proposal by evaluating proposals, blueprints, and specifications to identify the labor and material required to complete a project.

Duties / Responsibilities :

Purchasing

• Complete material takeoffs from the final construction drawings and create job orders.
• Order materials and supplies required to complete the project and issue purchase orders to suppliers.
• Maintains knowledge of trends, prices, and delivery conditions to anticipate future material availability.
• Negotiates and completes contracts with vendors for optimal cost and delivery times.
• Reviews purchase orders and contracts for compliance with company and departmental policies.
• Collaborates with sales, customer service, and logistics departments to maximize efficiency
• Communicates with suppliers to resolve problems that may arise regarding delivery, quality, price, or conditions of sale.
• Purchases large and complex items.
• Assists with developing and implementation of policies and procedures related to purchasing with a goal to maximize efficiency and optimize workflow.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

Est imating

• Accurately estimate projects based on a thorough understanding of the blueprints, specifications, and requirements.
• Prepare detailed cost proposals that include information on what is included in the estimate
• Corresponds with internal and external resources to gather missing information that is needed to produce an accurate cost.
• Ability and understanding to prepare and manger bid invitations as well as provide clarity to subcontractors.
• Obtain subcontractor and supplier quotes and review for accuracy and cost.
• Calculate all materials, labor, and subcontractor costs to complete the project.
• Provide technical product support and value engineering options
• Enter job costing and labor hour breakdown on sold projects.
• Select subcontractors based on accuracy and cost effectiveness and issue subcontracts and purchases orders.
• Complete change order requests in a timely manner.
• Assists with developing and implementation of policies and procedures related to estimating with a goal to maximize efficiency and optimize workflow.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

• Ability to read and understand blueprints and specifications.
• Proven negotiation skills.
• Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills.
• Ability to exercise tact, courtesy, and ethics when dealing with vendors, co-workers, and customers.
• Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
• Excellent time management skills with a proven ability to meet deadlines.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite.
• Experience using Bluebeam (preferred)
• Experience using Procore Construction Software (preferred)

Education and Experience :

• Associates degree in Business or related field, or equivalent work experience, required.
• At least 5 years of purchasing and / or construction estimating experience required.

Physical Requirements :

• Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
• Must be able to lift, push, or pull up to 40 pounds at times.
• May be asked to travel to visit vendors or different company locations.
• Must be able to ascend and descend stairs.
