Position Summary

The Project Engineer is responsible for supporting the Project Manager (PM) in a variety of equipment delivery projects associated with LanzaTech’s gas fermentation technology.

The Project Engineer position responsibilities will also include assistance with the development of proposals, new products, and infrastructure tools.

Key Responsibilities & Duties :

  • Supports the PM during the execution of both internal and external projects in accordance with LT Work Processes
  • Leads the project in conjunction with the PM, concentrating on technical aspects. Coordinates the efforts of other project team members.
  • Assists the PM with project setup including, but not limited to, the development of Project Execution Plan, Quality Plan, Schedule & Budget
  • Perform technical functions (specify, evaluate, expedite, and inspect) related to procurement of equipment (vessels, exchangers, rotating, and miscellaneous equipment) and Detailed Design and Fabrication services.
  • Technically evaluate bids and participate in the supplier selection process.
  • Review Detailed Engineering Design and Equipment Fabrication deliverables to ensure consistency with the design basis and to monitor overall delivery status.
  • Assists with the compiling and gathering of data for budget, schedule, & quality monitoring and reporting.
  • Provide technical expertise during detailed design & equipment vendor discussions.
  • Interacts with third parties such as equipment vendors, Engineering, Procurement and Construction (EPC) contractors and industry consultants.
  • Visit clients, EPC, vendor’s offices / shops for kickoff meetings, critical inspections, and collect / provide feedback to improve future designs.
  • Provide sales support, including technical scope definition and cost information for project opportunities being pursued by LT sales representatives.
  • Participate in the qualification & selection of detailed design firms, equipment vendors and fabrication shops.
  • Ensure that safety procedures are implemented on each project.
  • Build a positive attitude within the project team by fostering productive open communication.
  • Aids in the continuous improvement of Project Management tools, dashboards, work processes, and work instructions
  • Develops infrastructure for the execution of engineering and equipment commercial projects (engineering tools, quality checklists, work instructions, and design memos) to address customers’ needs and the productivity within LanzaTech.
  • Proactively identifies areas for improvement, shares best practices, and leads on some implementation efforts.

Basic Qualifications :

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering (Chemical, Mechanical or Civil preferred).
  • Minimum 5 years of applicable experience (i.e., Design, Manufacturing, Operations, or related
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Strong leadership, interpersonal skills, self-motivated with the ability to take initiative, work independently and in a team environment.
  • Able to demonstrate effective coordination, planning and organizational skills.
  • Able to gather data, set priorities and meet deadlines.
  • Strong computer skills and skilled in Microsoft Office suite

Desired Qualifications :

  • 1-2 years’ experience in a project engineering role supporting capital projects in excess of $500k. EPC or plant engineering roles preferred.
  • Working knowledge of AutoCAD and Bluebeam

Work Conditions :

  • Able to work in a general office and remote (home) environment.
  • Up to 15% of domestic and internal travel is required.
