Job Summary

Under general direction of the HR Manager and Lead HR Generalist, responsible for providing HR Generalist support to ensure smooth and efficient HR business operations.

The HR Generalist will have both administrative and strategic responsibilities, supporting the CNPRC, which includes support in planning and administering staffing operations that enhances CNPRC HR service functions in the areas of recruitment and planning, implementation of onboarding and off boarding of employees / appointees, which includes but not limited to assigning / removal of access to facilities based on job / appointment types, conduct new hire orientations, supporting equity, diversity, and inclusivity programs, training and development, and compensation / academic personnel administration, and maintaining online employee handbook and HR procedures manual, and answer employee questions regarding pay, benefits, HR policies and procedures.

Develop and execute personnel procedures and policies, providing guidance and interpretation to academic and staff supervisors.

Participate in the development of HR objectives and systems, including metrics, queries, and HR analytics and reporting requirements.

Assist in administering employee performance program and employee rewards and recognition. Recommend new procedures and policies to continually improve the efficiency of the HR Services and the CNPRC as a whole and to improve the employees' / appointees' experience.

Ensure legal compliance of HR state and federal regulations and applicable employment laws, and update policies and / or procedures as

required.

The HR Generalist I applies professional HR concepts, policies, and procedures in the completion of HR assignments that are of limited scope and impact.

Receives instructions on work assignments, and regularly consults with HR Manager and HR Gen 2 / BPs while completing increasingly complex assignments.

Follows standard practices and procedures in analyzing HR situations or data from which answers can be readily obtained.

Exercises judgment within defined procedures and policies to determine appropriate action.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, Social Sciences and / or equivalent experience / training.
  • 2 years of human resource generalist experience which includes employing HR generalist concepts and practices such as DEI, training / facilitating group sessions, and experience with consensus building skills to collaboratively formulate, implement, and evaluate programmatic changes to achieve HR goals and objectives
  • Experience and applied knowledge of word processing, spreadsheets, databases, internet, website content management systems, and using security and badging software to accomplish daily assignments.

Experience in analyzing, researching, and synthesizing data for preparing reporting, analyses, and recommendations.

Experience in project management and coordination with large and small groups with experience in handling multiple assignments / projects with discretion and maintain confidentiality of personal and sensitive information.

Work experience as an HR Analyst / Generalist supporting HR operations including hiring (recruitment and selection), payroll administration, onboarding / offboarding, and employee relations, training development, job analyses / classification and compensation, salary administration, leave administration or similar role.

Experience in the principles and practices of HR analytics and data reporting and position control management / cost recovery.

Experience applying federal and state laws and regulations pertaining to HR in a staff and academic union environments.

Knowledge of HR policies and procedures with up-to-date knowledge of HR technologies. Skills, knowledge, and ability to conduct research and conduct statistical analysis into HR problems, develop employee-centered surveys and sampling techniques to collect data.

Intermediate skills and knowledge of Microsoft Office products such as Word, Excel and Access, PowerPoint and database management software such as Oracle and Cognos.

Skills, knowledge, and abilities to adapt to changing priorities, attention to details, and organizational skills to work on projects with competing deadlines and is able to establish workload priorities with flexibility to interact with people and competing demands.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration
  • Technical experience in writing, editing, and proofreading to create and edit training documents, manuals, and project reports, analyses, and policy / procedure that reflect high attention to detail and the standards and professionalism.
  • Experience recognizing and protecting the confidentiality of highly sensitive or controversial information.
  • Excellent customer service, verbal, and written communication skills, interpersonal, negotiation, and conflict resolution skills.
  • Ability to act with integrity, professionalism, and confidentiality.
  • Proficiency with or the ability to quickly learn the organizations HRIS and talent management systems.

The California National Primate Research Center, CNPRC at UC Davis, is an Organized Research Unit that conducts interdisciplinary research programs on significant human health problems where non-human primates is the animal of choice.
