QUALIFICATIONS :

  • Valid Missouri teacher or substitute certificate issued through DESE
  • Preferred previous coaching experience in assigned sport
  • Possession of the knowledge, skills, abilities, and physical attributes necessary to perform the essential functions of the position.
  • Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate or acceptable.

REPORTS TO : The athletic director who provides overall objectives and final evaluations in conjunction with the building administrator.

JOB GOAL : To help each participating student achieve a high level of skill, an appreciation for the values of discipline and sportsmanship, and an increased level of self-esteem.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES :

  • Assists in the coaching of individual participants in the skills necessary for excellent achievement in the sport involved.
  • Assists in planning and scheduling a regular program of practice in season.
  • Works closely with the athletic director and Head Coach in scheduling interscholastic contests.
  • Recommends purchase of equipment, supplies, and uniforms, as appropriate.
  • Maintains necessary attendance forms, insurance records, and similar paperwork.
  • Oversees the safety conditions of the facility or area in which assigned sport is conducted at all times that students are present.
  • Establishes performance criteria for eligibility in interscholastic competition in the coach’s sport.
  • Enforces discipline and sportsmanlike behavior at all times, and establishes and oversees penalties for breach of such standards by individual students.
  • Assists in organizing and supervising a total sports program.
  • Demonstrates effective human relations and communication skills.
  • Complies with all district rules, regulations, and policies.
  • Regular and consistent attendance is an essential function of this position.
  • Other duties as required or assigned.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT : Salary and work calendar to be established by the Board.

EVALUATION : Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the Board’s policy on evaluations utilizing the Performance Based Support Staff Evaluation process.
