Job Description :
The Registered Nurse (RN) in the Operating Room (OR) is a highly skilled and experienced nurse responsible for delivering advanced perioperative care to surgical patients.
This position involves providing comprehensive nursing services in a fast-paced environment, supporting surgeons, anesthesiologists, and other healthcare professionals during surgeries.
The RN ensures that the operating room environment is prepared and maintained according to the highest standards of safety and efficiency.
The nurse acts as both a patient advocate and a key member of the surgical team, ensuring optimal outcomes through skilled nursing interventions and attention to detail.
Responsibilities :
- Deliver expert care to surgical patients, ensuring comfort, safety, and well-being throughout the perioperative process.
- Assist surgeons and the OR team by anticipating needs during procedures, handling instruments, and managing equipment as required.
- Prepare the operating room, ensuring all necessary equipment, instruments, and supplies are ready for scheduled and emergency surgeries.
- Provide direct care during surgeries, monitoring patient status, managing surgical tools, and ensuring sterile technique is maintained throughout the procedure.
- Coordinate with recovery room staff to ensure smooth transitions for patients post-surgery, including handoffs and post-anesthesia care.
- Work closely with the interdisciplinary team, including surgeons, anesthesiologists, and surgical technologists, to ensure safe and efficient patient care.
- Participate in quality improvement initiatives, infection control protocols, and safety checks to ensure compliance with hospital policies and best practices.
- Maintain accurate and detailed records of patient care, medications, and intraoperative activities in the hospital’s electronic health record system.
- Provide guidance and mentoring to less experienced nurses, nursing students, and other healthcare team members. Act as a clinical resource and role model for nursing excellence.
- Participate in on-call rotations as needed, ensuring availability for emergency surgeries outside of regular hours.
Education :
Graduate of an accredited school of nursing (Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) preferred).
Licensure / Certification :
- Active RN license in the state of Georgia.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required.
- Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification required (within 6 months of hire).
- Specialty certification in perioperative nursing (e.g., CNOR) preferred.
Required Minimum Experience :
- A minimum of 5 years of experience in perioperative nursing or a similar surgical setting.
- Experience in multiple surgical specialties is preferred (e.g., orthopedics, general surgery, trauma).
