About the position
Citizen Action is looking to hire a Campaign Organizer for the Invest in Our New York campaign. The Campaign Organizer will work with the Invest in Our New York campaign staff, coalition members and partners, and supporters to develop and implement a regional organizing strategy that advance’s the campaign's work to win a more equitable state budget.
This role will include identifying and recruiting organizational partners; coordinating coalition members toward advancing a shared strategy;
planning and executing collective actions that advance our legislative priorities; and developing political education training materials and training community members on IONY’s economic vision and priorities.

What you’ll do and the impact you'll make
Support the development and execution of the Invest in Our New York’s organizing strategy, with a particular focus on growing support and involvement from grassroots partners from around the state.
This will include leveraging existing campaign resources (thousands of active members, support across labor unions and other stakeholders, social media, email lists, press relationships etc).
- Coordinate organizational partners in executing the strategy while ensuring that the coalition’s efforts center the needs and leadership of directly impacted people.
- Identify and recruit new coalition partners, particularly those representing critical geographies such as Buffalo, the Capitol Region, the Mid-Hudson Valley, etc.
- Plan and execute collective actions that advance our legislative priorities. Actions can include things like lobby days, phone banks, press conferences, canvassing, and more creative activities.
- Develop political education training materials aimed at members, leaders and staff of grassroots organizations.
- Lead trainings that will strengthen participants’ understanding of the NY budget process, and IONY’s economic vision and legislative priorities.
- Collaborate with IONY’s communications coordinator to develop campaign literature including palm cards and mailers.
- Any other duties as assigned by their supervisor.
Skills / Qualifications
- 3+ years of directly relevant experience with grassroots organizing campaigns, preferably advocacy-based and / or political campaigns.
- Demonstrated experience with developing and advancing organizing programs and campaigns, or similar for 1-2 years.
- Exceptional communication skills, including an ability to engage a variety of stakeholders such as community organizations, grassroots member leaders, unions, issue coalitions, elected officials, and members of the press.
- Experience with working with coalitions or with managing volunteers.
- High-level of personal organization including the ability to manage deadlines for multiple projects.
- Familiarity and experience with the New York State political and social justice movement.
- Familiarity with or ability and willingness to fully adopt use of tech tools, including :
- CRM & digital campaigning : Action Network, EveryAction, VAN, Mobilize, Soapboxx, New / Mode, Spoke / Relay, Divi, Strive, Mailchimp
- Project management : Asana, Google Drive, Slack, Airtable, Zoom
- Ability for statewide travel and to work some evenings and weekends
- Bilingual Spanish speaker a plus
Location
This job operates in a remote / hybrid office environment. This position may be based in any of our regions, reporting to that chapters’ office location.
In-person participation in meetings and events may be required. In-person participation in meetings and events may be required at different locations.
This job requires frequent travel across New York State to provide on-the-ground coverage for in-person events and / or conduct training with partners.
Overnight and weekend travel may be occasionally required. Travel may include multiple day trips and over weekends.

Salary : The salary range for this position is $69,371-$72,071, depending on experience, with potential increases for equivalent experience.
