PART TIME CUSTODIAN

Overview

Barnes & Noble College is seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented Custodian to oversee the cleanliness and maintenance of our facilities at our University of Notre Dame campus bookstore.

This role is responsible for ensuring that all areas of our premises are consistently clean, sanitary, and welcoming for employees, customers, and visitors.

Responsibilities

Expectations :

• Create and manage cleaning schedules that keep all areas of the facility consistently tidy and well-maintained.
• Sweep, mop, vacuum, and polish floors.
• Clean and sanitize restrooms, including sinks, toilets, and mirrors.
• Empty trash receptacles and replace liners.
• Dust and wipe down surfaces, including desks, countertops, and furniture.
• Clean windows, glass partitions, and mirrors.
• Report any maintenance or repair needs to the supervisor.
• Assist with minor repairs, such as changing light bulbs or unclogging sinks.
• Oversee the inventory of cleaning supplies and equipment, ensuring they are well-maintained, adequately stocked, and used efficiently.
• Promptly respond to maintenance requests and emergencies, providing timely solutions to ensure continued operations and customer satisfaction.
• Maintain detailed records of cleaning activities, inventory usage, and any maintenance issues, reporting on progress and challenges to senior management.
• Ensure adherence to health and safety regulations, including proper handling and disposal of cleaning chemicals and equipment.
• Additional responsibilities as required.

Physical Demands :

• Frequent movement within the store to access various departments, areas, and / or products.
• Ability to remain in a stationary position for extended periods.
• Frequent lifting.
• Occasional reaching, stooping, kneeling, crouching, and climbing ladders.

In accordance with individual campus requirements, positions may require confirmation of vaccination. The use of face masks throughout the day and while on campus may also be expected or required.

Qualifications

• Candidates must be a minimum of 18 years of age to be considered for employment.
• Previous custodial or janitorial experience preferred but not required.
• Proficient in communication and collaboration with other departments
• Attention to detail and ability to maintain high cleanliness standards
• Flexibility to work varying hours, including weekends and evenings
