What We Offer

The City and County of Denver offers a competitive salary commensurate with education and experience. The salary range for this position is $30.

00 - $34.00 / hour. We also offer generous benefits for full-time employees which include but is not limited to :

Location & Schedule

In this position you can expect to work on site at the Denver International Airport 4 days per week. Specific scheduling requirements for this position include are comprised of 4 10-hour flexible shifts as follows :

Days : Sunday through Wednesday 6 : 00am 4 : 30pm

Nights : Sunday through Wednesday 4 : 00pm-2 : 30am

Days : Wednesday through Saturday 6 : 00am-4 : 30pm

Nights : Wednesday through Saturday : 4 : 00pm-2 : 30am

You may be placed on any of these shifts upon hire. Employees are allowed to bid on a preferred shift once per year. Bid order is determined by employee hire date.

Additional shift responsibilities may include :

On Call Snow Overtime : 3 : 30am to 3 : 30pm or 3 : 30pm to 3 : 30am

Mandatory extended / additional shifts are required for snow removal operations

What You’ll Do

As a Fleet Technician II you can expect to :

Conduct routine and annual inspections and performs preventive maintenance on all vehicles.

Inspect, diagnose, disassemble, remove, clean, and replace defective parts / systems, and adjust to specified performance standards for assigned fleet vehicles.

Perform minor overhaul of engines and diagnose and repair engine and powertrain control systems using standard diagnostic equipment

Perform minor overhaul of front, rear, and all-wheel drive systems; manual, automatic, constant velocity transmission (CVT), electronic transmissions, standard and limited slip differentials, and electric and manual transfer cases.

Diagnose and repair vehicle emission systems. Perform minor repair of vehicle power plants and electrical systems. Repair charging, starting, and electrical systems.

Repair electronically and mechanically controlled hydraulic systems.

Repair vehicle heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC), belts, hoses, water pumps, and related parts including refrigerant recycling and all component repair and replacement and exhaust systems and Repair suspension and steering systems.

Performs two and four-wheel alignments on equipment using standard equipment and electronically controlled steering systems.

Repair and replace braking systems including anti-lock braking systems (ABS) and traction control systems. Repairs mechanical, hydraulic, and pneumatic systems and apparatus.

Repair passive (airbags) and active restraint systems including collision avoidance, parking aid, and occupant classification systems.

Fabricate, weld, and repair parts using standard welding techniques and tools which includes design and installation of specialized equipment and mounting systems.

Install and repair specialized safety or City-required equipment such as light bars and controls, strobes, sirens, lift frames and arrow boards, consoles, and electrical or computerized vehicle interfaces.

Responds to field service calls and performs preventive maintenance on equipment in shop or in field locations. Participates in snow removal duties

Trains and reviews the work of lower-level technicians. Assists higher-level technicians and trains on increasingly complex repairs, maintenance, and inspections.

Observes all common shop safety standards.

Performs other duties as assigned. Any one position may not include all the duties listed. However, the allocation of positions will be determined by the amount of time spent in performing the essential duties listed above.

What You’ll Bring

Our ideal candidate has some or all the following experience, skills, and characteristics :

An associate degree (or Trade School Certification) in automotive maintenance or similar a plus

5 Years of full-time experience working in an Automotive / Heavy Truck repair and maintenance shop

Strong automotive and equipment diagnostics ability with up-to-date training certificates a plus

2 plus years of experience working with a Fleet Management Database

3-5 ASE certifications in Automotive or Medium / Heavy Duty Truck a plus

MACS 609 Certification in Automotive refrigerant servicing and handling a plus

Required Minimum Qualifications

Education requirement : Graduation from high school or the possession of a GED, HiSET or TASC Certificate.

Experience Requirement : Two (2) years of experience in the diagnosis, repair and maintenance of gasoline or diesel-powered equipment.

Education / Experience Equivalency : Additional appropriate education may be substituted for the minimum experience requirements.

License / Certifications : Requires a valid Driver's License at the time of application.

Possession of a Colorado Commercial Driver's License (CDL "B") with appropriate endorsements by the end of probation.

Requires certifications in Airbrake and / or Motor Vehicle Air Conditioning as certified under section 609 of the Clean Air Act by an EPA approved program by the end of probation
