Description
The Assistant Coordinator, Basic Law Enforcement Training ( BLET ) will support and assist the Coordinator of the Basic Law Enforcement Training (Pre-Service) program for public safety professionals.
The Assistant Coordinator shall assist in the planning, developing, coordinating, and delivering of Commission-mandated courses within the Basic Law Enforcement Training program parameters.
The Assistant Coordinator, BLET reports to the Coordinator, Basic Law Enforcement Training ( BLET ) and the Program Director, Law Enforcement In-Service & Pre-Service Training, with oversight from the Dean of Human Services, Public Safety, Health and Physical Education.
Duties / Functions
Administration
Supports daily & ongoing oversight of facilities, equipment and student records to include :
- maintaining classroom and laboratory spaces including upkeep of assigned equipment
- providing for the security of facilities, equipment and instructional materials and maintaining safe working conditions
- complying with all applicable college, state and federal rules and regulations
Student Support
Assists in providing an environment conducive to student success to include :
- addressing student concerns in a timely manner
- referring students to campus and community resources when appropriate
- Demonstrate and model the College’s employability skills : adaptability, communication, information processing, problem solving, responsibility and teamwork.
Additional Duties & Responsibilities :
- Maintain student records.
- Perform all duties as assigned by supervisor.

Education Required
- Bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice or a closely related field from a regionally accredited college / university
- Current North Carolina Basic Law Enforcement Certification
- Current General Instructor certification by North Carolina Department of Justice, Training and Standards Division.
- Certification as a Qualified Assistant (QA) with the North Carolina Department of Justice, Training and Standards Division & Sheriff’s Standards Commission (or the ability to obtain within the first 90 days of employment)
- A valid North Carolina Driver’s License or the ability to attain one upon hire.
Education Preferred
- Master’s degree in Criminal Justice or a closely related field from a regionally accredited college / university.
- Currently Specialized Instructor Certification by NC DOJ , Training and Standards Division in any of the Specializations
Experience Required
- 4 years of relevant field experience in criminal justice (law enforcement, corrections, probation / parole, homeland security, etc.)
- 4 years of law enforcement training / teaching experience based on regulatory training standards.
- Significant experience in teaching within a BLET program and must have taught in a BLET Program in the last 24 months.
Experience Preferred
- Greater than 4 years of relevant field experience in criminal justice (law enforcement, corrections, probation / parole, homeland security, etc.)
- Greater than 4 years of law enforcement training / teaching experience based on regulatory training standards.
- Teaching / training experience in a post-secondary institution.
- Prior Experience as a NC DOJ , Training and Standards Division Qualified Assistant.
KSA Required
The Assistant Coordinator, Basic Law Enforcement Training ( BLET ) shall possess an understanding of and commitment to the nature and role of the Community College, particularly its open door policy.

2. Must work at some off campus and community locations.
