Job Title : Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA)

Position Summary :

Provides prescribed personal care services for the residents, under the direction of the unit nurse. Follows the established procedures and standards, to enable the residents to enjoy emotional and physical comfort in a safe and caring environment.

Key Responsibilities :

Performs tub baths, showers, or bed baths to assigned residents.

Ensures that proper oral hygiene is given.

Assists dressing residents in appropriate clothing to be clean, warm, and safe.

Makes sure that residents remain clean, dry, and tidy.

Reports any abnormal or problematic skin or hygiene situations to the unit nurse.

Serves trays to residents; assists and / or feeds residents where necessary

Observes and reports to the unit nurse any resident experiencing difficulty in eating or toleration of their prescribed diet.

Documents food and liquid consumption.

Encourages residents to remain as independent as possible, keeping in mind the need for safety measures.

Communicates in such a manner with the resident so as to ensure a constantly oriented, therapeutic environment.

Carries out bowel and bladder training as directed by the unit nurse.

Assists in ambulating residents as part of their restorative program.

Helps residents to relearn or adapt to new methods to perform basic activities of daily living (dressing, bathing, grooming, eating, etc.)

Turns and repositions residents to prevent skin breakdown and contractures and make the resident comfortable.

Performs splinting restorative ROM.

Documents on Restorative Flow sheets the duty completed.

Responds to residents’ calls.

Takes temperature, pulse, and respiration as directed by the unit nurse and records them on the vital signs sheet.

Measures intake and output on residents as directed; records and reports the findings appropriately, noting any irregularities.

Records resident bowel functions, noting irregularities.

Collects urine specimens as directed by the unit nurse.

Applies splints as directed by the Occupational Therapist.

Performs postmortem care.

Participates in behavior modification programs as established by the facility.

Helps in keeping the unit orderly and equipment ready for use.

Performs any other duties required to help patient care and maintenance of a smoothly operating department.

Documents an ADL Flow sheet, Restorative Sheets, various treatment sheets, charge sheets, etc. as established by the facility.

Follow the established No Lift program.

Assists in ordering of unit supplies

Maintains professional presence when representing Baptist Homes’. Exhibits degree of professionalism consistent with standards in performance, behavior, and appearance.

Maintains resident confidentiality and privacy at all times according to Baptist Homes of Western Pennsylvania policies and procedures;

uses discretion when discussing resident matters.

Demonstrates courteous and cooperative behavior with residents, families, co-workers, subordinates, supervisors, and other department staff.

Maintains positive working relationships with Baptist Homes’ management and providers; willingly follows directions and requests as appropriate.

Exhibits professional standards through appearance and demeanor consistent with Baptist Homes’ standards; always dresses and grooms appropriately.

Demonstrates a thorough knowledge of work assignments; performs assignments in a manner to meet quality and timeliness objectives.

Demonstrates knowledge and understanding of Baptist Homes’ policies and procedures; seeks clarification or interpretation of questions concerning policies / procedures from appropriate supervisor.

Adheres to Baptist Homes’ attendance policy by maintaining an adequate absentee rate and provides proper documentation to support absences when appropriate or required.

Always complies with applicable safety policies and procedures as prescribed by the organization, as well as government regulations.

Plans and completes duties with minimal direction from supervisors.

Follows up with appropriate staff, residents, or other individuals regarding reported complaints, problems, and concerns, and uses tactful, diplomatic communication techniques in those sensitive and emotional situations.

Participates as a part of an integrated work team where resident, family, and staff thoughts and ideas are sought to create a person-centered environment

Ensures that all aspects of the community’s Culture of Wellness are afforded the residents and staff, recognizing the impact this makes on their quality of life.

Qualifications :

Less than high school education; or up to one-year related experience or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Must be enrolled in the State’s CNA Registry.

Work Schedule :

Part-Time : 11 : 00 Pm- 7 : 00 Am Every Other Weekend.
