ASSISTANT STORE MANAGER

Position Summary

The Assistant Store Manager (ASM) is a creative, energetic and confident Salt Life brand ambassador. The ASM works directly under the Store Manager and assumes full management responsibility in the absence of the Store Manager.

The ASM hires, trains, develops, and manages a strong team of Sales Associates to ensure smooth execution of store operations.

The ASM will inspire, motivate and provide leadership in driving sales, merchandising, inventory control, human resources, outstanding customer service, and maximizing profits by controlling expenses.

RESPONSIBILITIES AND EXPECTATIONS

Sales and Customer Service

  • Understand, support and adaptable to all company policies and procedures
  • Constantly strive to achieve and exceed store and personal sale goals
  • Manage the use of weekly sales reports to track, analyze and communicate business results to the Store Manager, as well as determine strategies to maximize sales
  • Demonstrates high degree of professionalism in communication, attitude and team work with customers, peers and management team
  • Deliver exceptional customer service through taking ownership of the sales floor and handling customers with issues and complaints
  • Accountable for consistently leading and developing a highly efficient, customer focused team
  • Empower the team to make decisions in the customers best interest that also supports Salt Life philosophy
  • Manages and assesses Key Holder and Sale Associate performance through consistent feedback and documentation of performance, coaching and creating developmental plans
  • Continuously motivates team to meet and exceed sales and productivity goals; develop lucrative incentives to encourage the team to deliver their best service
  • Hold Key Holders and Sale Associates accountable for time and attendance policy
  • Develop a strong knowledge of Salt Life product specifications, including, styles, bodies, fits, sizing, content and features.

Ensure the team feel comfortable engaging customers with product knowledge

  • Cultivate a positive relationship with the community via personal involvement, PR events and advertising opportunities
  • Adoptable to store environment change :
  • New product and technology
  • Customer emergencies

Operations

  • Maintain regular and timely communication with the Store Manager
  • Ensure cash control procedures are properly followed including; all transactions, bank deposits, till funds and petty cash
  • Ensure the store is completing all daily tasks and checklists
  • Maintain safety requirements to ensure safe working and shopping environment
  • Maintain supplies at a consistent and appropriate level while controlling expenses
  • Hold the team accountable to maintain an organized stockroom / break room / office
  • Report maintenance issues to the Store Manager
  • Flexible in the event of scheduling, including, nights, weekends, employee and customer emergencies

Inventory Management and Merchandising

  • Process and oversee all register / point of sale (POS) transactions accurately and in accordance with company policy
  • Perform all financial activities efficiently and in accordance with company standards, including cash handling and reporting, price changes, and merchandise handling
  • Ensure all incoming and outgoing shipments are processed and followed per policy
  • Ensure all new merchandise is properly placed
  • Send replenishment requests to Store Manager
  • Ensure store promotions and merchandise markdowns are accurate
  • Maintain the visual impact for the store :
  • Mannequins are fully dressed and styled
  • Visual displays are always in exceptional condition
  • Identify and communicate product / fixture concerns in a timely manner
  • Folding and hanging guidelines are adhered to
  • Ensure the cash wrap is organized, clean and efficiently operating at all times
  • Assist the Store Manager in the preparation and execution of physical inventories

Human Resources

  • Recruit, train, develop, motivate, and coach Key Holders / Sale Associates :
  • Distinguish between acceptable and unacceptable employment applications, making recommendation for applicant interviews
  • Conducts performance and disciplinary discussions
  • Ensures store environment where all employees are treated fairly and respectfully
  • Communicate any employee concerns to the Store Manager as needed
  • Ensure all employees are adhering to the dress code

Loss Prevention

  • Protect the stores funds, property, and team property by conforming to and enforcing all loss prevention guiding principles, policies and procedures
  • Train Key Holders and Sale Associates on loss prevention guiding principles, policies and procedures
  • Communicate all loss prevention related concerns or incidents to the Store Manager
  • Ensure employees are not abusing Employee Discount
  • Process all damaged merchandise
  • Ensure all missing merchandise and found tags are logged per policy

REQUIREMENTS

  • Minimum 4-5 years retail experience with 3+ years in a management role
  • Must have a positive, outgoing, high energy personality that is entrepreneurial, who is sales focused and takes full ownership of the stores business at all times
  • Passion for the ocean
  • Proven record of achievement of sales goals and KPIs
  • Demonstrated ability to motivate, lead and develop team
  • Strong interpersonal, organizational, multitasking and communication skills
  • Understanding of business report analysis and retail math
  • Computer skills to include operation of retail point of sale system, Microsoft Word, Excel and Power Point
  • Ability to work store sales floor for extended periods
  • Able to work flexible schedule including weekends, evenings and holidays
  • Ability to lift at least 30 lbs., carry, push, squat, kneel, twist, turn, reach and bend
