Overview
The Seat Design Engineer 5 role at Jamco America is responsible for the research, design and substantiation of the mechanical seat design within the Seat Engineering department, utilizing established modeling and drafting standards. The Seat Design Engineer assists with the design and development of engineering packages based on customer and OEM requirements for production, retrofit applications and product development.
Compensation
- Base pay range : $111,000.00 / yr - $185,000.00 / yr
- FLSA Status : Exempt
- Sign-On Bonus : $5,000.00
Key Responsibilities
Perform design assignments in accordance with established design standards independently.Assigned design tasks include, but not limited to : commercial aircraft seat mechanical design; mechanical seat installations; detailed assemblies; and seat mechanical specifications.Maintains or modifies top-level mechanical seat assemblies or components based on defined requirements using approved processes and tools.Participates in teams to support the development of designs and reviews / approves the documentation of design implementation.Obtains, interprets, and analyzes OEM airplane seat install or layout drawings using approved processes and tools.Provides liaison support for assigned duties to manufacturing and / or in-service issues.Troubleshoots mechanical seat systems problems.Actively supports engineering department goals and initiatives.Coordinates with other departments as necessary.Utilizes internal drawing / document standards per customer or regulatory agency requirements.Performs engineering design checks and signs documents, with periodic technical guidance from the Supervisor / Functional Manager.Performs engineering design analysis (such as preliminary stress analysis or kinematics analysis), design validation (validates analysis models against test data) and task scope validation.Performs engineering design approvals (design / approval authority) and task scheduling (detailed schedule of a given task per program requirements).Performs engineering project scope reviews, project time estimates and project RFQ commitments along with resource planning and assignments.Acts as design authority for design tasks.Defines engineering tasks for the PE / Functional Manager.Provides mentoring and performance management input to the Functional Manager.Some domestic or international travel may be required.Qualifications
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Drafting skills in CATIA V5 (or higher) and / or SolidWorks preferred.Must be able to provide complicated layouts and program design studies.Must be able to interact successfully with engineering, supply chain, and manufacturing.Must be able to function as part of a design team (up to 6 SDEs).Thorough understanding of manufacturing processes preferred.Thorough understanding of Boeing / Aircraft / SAE Seat Design Standards / Requirements.Education And / or Experience
BS degree Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering or related Engineering field (8 years or more of experience) or equivalent working experience (15 years minimum in an aerospace related field).Language Skill
Ability to read and interpret documents such as Federal Aviation Requirements; Airframe OEM and industry requirements regarding Seat Design and Installation; operating and maintenance instructions and procedure manuals.Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of the organization.Reasoning Ability
Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
