Job Title : Surgical Technician

Location : Edison, NJ 08818

Hours : 40 hours per week

Shifts : 8 hours per day, 5 days per week

Schedule : 7 : 00 AM - 7 : 00 PM

Job Summary :

The Surgical Technician is responsible for the cleaning and handling of surgical instruments in accordance with established policies while maintaining accurate records.

Essential Job Functions :

  • Standardize set-ups and follow surgeon preferences while ensuring proper care and handling of instruments.
  • Organize instrumentation neatly before returning it to the decontamination room and ensure all clean supplies are returned to designated areas.
  • Maintain accurate counts of sponges, needles, and instruments; administer and label medications as per policy.
  • Handle specimens according to operating room policies and procedures.
  • Control contamination and manage decontamination, disinfection, sterilization, and sanitation of instruments and equipment.
  • Remove used equipment and properly dispose of contaminated needles and syringes at the end of procedures.
  • Participate in team conferences to plan and evaluate patient care, assisting the circulator in revising care plans as needed.
  • Maintain an up-to-date Surgical Technologist skills proficiency checklist, including checking off equipment and cases, and rotating through specialty areas.
  • Lift a minimum of 50 lbs., push / pull a minimum of 400 lbs., and stand for the duration of the shift.
  • Identify and address the specific needs of the patient population served, adapting care based on factors such as age, culture, and language.

Communicate effectively with patients, parents, and caregivers at their level of understanding.

Adhere to the organizational competencies and standards established by the medical center.

Education :

Required Education : Graduate of an accredited Surgical Technologist Program or equivalent training program.

Preferred Certifications & Licensure :

  • Professional certification by the Association of Surgical Technologists (AST).
