At Houston Methodist the UltrasoundTechnologist I position completes a variety of routine diagnosticultrasound procedures to include common and special ultrasoundexams of moderate complexity.

This position provides directassistance to physicians with all diagnostic and special ultrasoundprocedures. This Ultrasound Technologist I position deliversexceptional patient care and adheres to ultrasound exam standardsand guidelines established by governing agencies to ensure optimalpatient safety and customer service.

This position is a member ofthe direct patient care team.

PEOPLEESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

SERVICEESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Performsdiagnostic ultrasound procedures to include common and specialultrasound exams. Ultrasound exams use highfrequency sound waves tocaptureimages.
  • Proactivelyassesses identifies and responds to the needs of the patient foradjustment or intervention to optimize patient care image qualityand patient experience.

This includes : positioning physiologyprocedure preparation and technical factors. Modifies technicalfactors to achieve desired imaging results and recognizescomplications and limitations associated with certainprocedures.

  • Providesdirect assistance to physicians during diagnostic or specialprocedures including assisting with steriletechnique.
  • Providesaccurate explanations and instructions to patients and familymembers at an appropriate level utilizing verbal and nonverbalskills terminology andlanguage.

QUALITY / SAFETYESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Followssafety standards and conducts all imaging procedures accordingly.Maintains proper sterile techniques for procedures regularlypractices aseptic techniques and ensures compliance with infectioncontrol procedures.

Complies with job role department and hospitalsafety standards practices andpolicies.

Reports nearmisses and inputs errors promptly into appropriate hospital patientsafety reporting system to improve processes and identify trends.

Contributes to identification of corrective actions and improvementactivities and contributes to meeting department and hospitaltargets for quality andsafety.

Performs dailyimaging equipment quality control (QC) ensuring all imagingequipment is in safe working order prior to use.

Reports anymalfunctions to management and regularly practices preventivemaintenance procedures; calls for service ifneeded.

Utilizes criticalthinking skills to observe and proactively address patientreactions (i.e. medications) or potential outcomes and obtainsassistance asappropriate.

  • Providesaccurate and complete documentation of patient procedures. Enterscharges at the time service isdelivered.
  • Uses resourcesefficiently; does not waste supplies. Selfmotivated toindependently manage time effectively and prioritize dailytasks.

  • Participates indepartment projects or shared governance activities. Assumesresponsibility for growth and development by participating ininservices programs and continuingeducation.
  • Seeksopportunities to expand learning beyond baseline competencies witha focus on continual development as aTechnologist.

  • RDMSOB RegisteredDiagnostic Medical Sonographer OB / GYN (ARDMS) OR
  • RDMSAB RegisteredDiagnostic Medical Sonographer Abdomen (ARDMS) OR
  • RDMSBR RegisteredDiagnostic Medical Sonographer Breast (ARDMS) Breast (BR)credential earned prior to June 30 2010 will be accepted asreferenced in ACR guidelines OR
  • ARRTSON RadiologicTechnologist Sonography (ARRT) AND
  • NOTE : If functioningsolely as a Breast Ultrasound Tech then either one of the abovecredentials or American Registry for Diagnostic Sonography (ARDMSBR) or Breast (BR) credential earned prior to June 30 2010 will beaccepted as referenced in American College of Radiology guidelines;

must obtain American Registry for Diagnostic Sonography Breast(ARDMS BR) registry by the end of the month following 18 months ofhire / transfer date if does not already have AND

BLS Basic Life Support(AHA)
