Position description
Junior Specialist - Krummel Lab
Involves a hybrid of computational, data analytics, and systems immunology specialization with emphasis of the former two.
Working at the junction of the three of these to learn basic principles of the immune system. Incumbent will apply computational, computer science, data science to perform research and to drive hypotheses for subsequent analysis in the lab.
Responsibilities include research, design, development, analysis, operation, and support of data science research, software, tools and hardware resources.
The incumbent will work closely with immunologists to develop data algorithms and perform computation, statistical analyses, and interpretation and reporting of research.
Works and can listen and talk to biologists as well as those with various computational expertise.
Required Qualifications :
- Specialists appointed at the junior rank must possess a baccalaureate degree (or equivalent degree) or at least four years of relevant research experience by the time of hire.
- Applicants' materials must list current and / or pending qualifications upon submission.
- Intermediate knowledge of data science tools including facility with Python and R.
- Proven skills and experience in independently resolving broad computing / data science problems using introductory and / or intermediate principles.
Preferred Qualifications :
Demonstrated broad experience in one or more of the following : matrix factorization methods and knowledge networks.
Appointees in the Specialist series will be expected to engage in specialized research, professional activities and do not have teaching responsibilities.
Specialists are expected to use their professional expertise to make scientific and scholarly contributions, and may participate in University and Public Service.

See Table 24B for the salary range for this position. A reasonable estimate for this position is $51,300 - $54,600.
