Job Summary : This position is primarily responsible for aiding the medical providers with patient care through a variety of tasks.
The Medical Assistant efficiently prepares patients to be seen by the medical provider by bringing the patient to an exam room, taking vitals, and collecting the patient’s health history.
Performs non-critical medical and therapeutic procedures based on medical instruction including phlebotomy and other lab specimen handling, EKGs, spirometry, and basic waived lab tests.
- Under provider supervision, prepares and administers medications and immunizations; changes dressings, applies bandages and other first aid procedures;
- and uses CPR skills when necessary. The Medical Assistant helps with the administrative aspects of patient care by maintaining patient documents in the Electronic Medical Record, responding to patient portal and phone messages per established protocols;
facilitating communication needed for refills, imaging or consult services; closing gaps in preventative care, and completing other duties as assigned.
Protects the dignity, privacy and confidentiality of patients and their families; and works collaboratively with other DPHS providers and staff to promote a team-based approach to patient care.
This person always maintains professionalism when providing care and delivers care in a culturally competent manner. This person collaborates with other medical personnel, including members of the other departments, to complete their work.

Job Requirements : High school diploma or General Education Degree (GED) required. A minimum of 1 year of work experience as a Medical Assistant, Patient Care Technician or similar in a hospital, medical clinic or comparable environment preferred.
Certified Medical Assistant from a nationally recognized certifying agency preferred, or eligible to be certified required.
Bilingual (English / Spanish) a plus. Experience with electronic medical records required, experience with eClinicalWorks (eCW) software preferred.
Skills include excellent oral and written communications including telephone, organizational, and personal computer including word processing and Microsoft office.
Willingness to work at any DPHS location.
