Job Overview of Nursing Supervisor
The Nursing Director supervises health center operations and personnel, coordinates care with other disciplines, provides quality nursing care and oversight for residents and day students, and oversees employee health issues.
The Nursing Director must comply with applicable laws, rules and regulations including NYSED, Article 29i clinic, and OCFS.

Essential Duties of Nursing Supervisor
Key duties of this position include, but are not limited to, the following :
- Oversee daily operations of the health center, including nursing and other staff
- Ensure all policies and procedures are monitored, reviewed, developed, and updated as needed
- Manage the department’s budget, including inventory & supply control
- Investigate & respond to all patient complaints
- Coordinate & communicate with Physicians, patients, family members, guardians, caseworkers and other stakeholders regarding patients’ health Oversee and implement changes to nursing best practices, such as infection prevention procedures
- Actively participate in interdisciplinary and other required meetings as needed.
- Recruit, train, onboard, supervise and evaluate Health Center personnel
- Compliance with applicable provisions of NYSED, OCFS, Article 29i clinic, DOH and all applicable laws, rules and regulations
- Conduct assessments including HIV risk assessments, intake assessments, general first aid and triage activities as needed and required by regulations.
- Ensures routine screening for : substance abuse, developmental health, mental health, and physical body checks for abuse
- Routine health education, management and training regarding health conditions or public health emergencies to children, caregivers, staff and stakeholders
- Responsible for development and implementation of enhancements in areas including staff education, patient education, health care and wellness, and policy development.
- Support and management of the emotional / psychiatric needs of children
- Provide oversight of physical plant with routine inspections; working with Facilities management to ensure timely resolution
- Establish treatment goals and nursing care plans for children, utilizing historical and current available information in collaboration with the multi-disciplinary team
- Medication administration and management including reconciliation and training
- Ensure adequate health center staff coverage
- Ensure appropriate follow up after medical appointments, urgent / emergency care or hospitalization
- Review all health care information and medical records
- Work with the direct treatment providers to establish treatment goals for children, utilizing historical and current available information
- Conduct prescription and non-prescription medication consultation according to the scope of practice of the practitioner
- Advise the local department of social services (DSS) commissioners and the 29-I VFCA Health Facility executive directors regarding the medical needs of the children in their care and / or care and custody as needed
- Create, distribute, review and approve required medical forms
- Provide clinical supervision of medical staff according to the scope of practice of the practitioner in compliance with applicable laws, rules and regulations to include NYSED requirements where applicable
- Conduct quality oversight and improvement services
- Provide emergency medical consultation as needed
- Supports overall strategic plan of the organization

Essential Qualifications of Nursing Supervisor
Key qualifications include :
- Current New York State Registered Nurse (RN) license; BSN preferred.
- Minimum of five years nursing experience preferably mental health or pediatric health setting.
- Minimum of three years’ Supervisory experience in inpatient or residential setting
- Strong verbal, written, organizational, problem solving, interpersonal and computer skills.
- Knowledge and / or proven experience working with children who have high functioning autism as well as a range of comorbid psychiatric challenges, trauma histories, and sensory needs.
- Hold current certification by the American Red Cross (or an equivalent) in First Aid and cardio-pulmonary resuscitation
- Valid NYS Driver’s License
- Flexibility required to meet unexpected scheduling needs and emergency consultation.
- Ability to access and utilize ADP app on smartphone or other device for access to agency programs

Physical / Travel Requirements
- Candidates who are successfully hired, must participate in our Therapeutic Crisis Intervention training which concludes with a written and verbal test, and you will be evaluated on conducting a proper physical restraint.
- Must possess ability to sit, stand, walk, run, climb stairs and lift up to 25lbs.
- Have physical capacity to restrain or assist in the restraint of a child.
