The Assistant Patient Care Director will be a change facilitator. Responsibilities include working with the Patient Care Director, Medical and Surgical teams and Professional Development (PD) team to set goals and objectives in accordance with HSS strategic initiatives, as well as planning, organizing, and monitoring unit activities.

The Assistant PCD will partner with the Patient Care Director with the fiscal responsibility for the unit, facilitating efficient and cost-effective daily operations.

The Assistant PCD will assist with the management and evaluation of unit and staff performance while establishing an environment where both staff and patients are able to reach their full potential.

They will coordinate and lead unit activities to assure optimal and appropriate care for patients, consistent with the philosophy and goals of the Nursing Department and Hospital for Special Surgery.

They will collaborate with the Patient Care Director, Frontline staff and the Interdisciplinary Team to promote the highest standards of care and safety as is critical to the mission of HSS.

Staff DevelopmentCollaborate with PD to facilitate staff orientation and developmentAssist with orientation coordination for new hires and training of float staffServes as a resource to coordinate clinical activities to ensure the highest level of patient care, incorporating patient safety, interdisciplinary communication, patient satisfaction, and resource utilizationMaintain and update Arthroplasty and Spine materials in collaboration with PDCollaborate with PD to work on clinical staff competenciesFacilitate staff involvement in hospital wide committees.

Clinical Competency and PracticeReview policies, post-op education material, education / medication for all clinical areasCollaborates with the team to coordinate the plan of care for all complex patientsActive engagement, council membership and serves as co-chair on councilsComplete / Monitor NDNQI Audits in collaboration with CN IIsComplete / Monitor Nursing Tracer and Environmental Tracer unit auditsSupport clinical operations of the unit as needed such as Charge nurse, and taking clinical assignments at the bedside.

Unit Development and ProjectsUtilizes performance improvement model (Plan-Do-Study-Act) to improve patient outcomesWork as a leader, with CN IIs, on unit wide projects;

1 per yearFacilitate coordination and collaboration between all Inpatient units to improve patient experience and workflow processesLeadership Responsibilities : Partners with the Patient Care Directors regarding clinical practice, staff communication, time utilization, change facilitation and staff assignmentsDeveloping quality management and performance improvement activitiesAddress areas of weakness and develop plans for improvementPartner’s with the Patient Care Director for performance management, performs performance evaluations and performance improvement.

Partner with Patient Care Director in implementing operational policies and procedures and ensure operational efficiency is maintainedUnderstand Magnet nursing principles and culture;

drive Magnet initiativesEmployee RoundingSupports staffing for all areasMaintain cultural and diversity appreciation when interacting with patients and their families, visitors, and co-workersWork collaboratively with interdisciplinary teams to improve workflow and enhance patient experienceCover Patient Care Directors in their absenceCover Nursing Supervisor role if neededQualificationsEducationRequired : Bachelors Nursing / BSNRequired : Masters, or currently enrolledCertifications / Licensure Required : Registered Nurse License, BLSRequired : Certification recognized by ANCC required, in orthopedics or CNOR preferredSkillsExcellent verbal and written communication skillsStrong customer service orientationStrong clinical knowledge and experienceOther Requirements#LI-OnsitePay Range - MinimumUSD $140,000.
