Position : RN, Director of Health Services

Overview :

WORK Inc. is seeking a highly effective Director of Health Services, Registered Nurse (RN) to lead and oversee the health and medical operations of all Work Inc.

Residential and Day Habilitation programs. This role includes supervising a small team of Registered Nurses (RNs) and Licensed Practical Nurses (LPNs).

The Director is responsible for implementing Department of Public Health (DPH) policies and procedures in accordance with guidelines from the Department of Developmental Services (DDS) and MassHealth.

Additionally, the Director evaluates the efficacy of health and medical services in all programs, providing recommendations for improvements to enhance the well-being of individuals served by Work Inc.

The role encompasses all elements related to deliverables in health services.

The jobholder needs to provide strong leadership, good judgement in prioritizing competing demands and keeping their team focused on required deliverables.

Job Duties and Responsibilities :

The Director of Health Services essential job duties / responsibilities of the position include but are not limited to the information listed below.

  • Supervision and Training : Oversee, evaluate, and train Registered Nurses (RNs) and Licensed Practical Nurses (LPNs) in both Residential and Day Habilitation programs.
  • Consultation : Provide nursing consultation to nursing staff, program management, supervisory staff, individuals, and families, and act as a resource for them in accessing information.
  • Overseeing Nursing Recruitment : Responsible for managing and executing the recruitment process for nursing vacancies.
  • Medication Administration Program (MAP) : Implement, review, and update MAP for the Residential Division. Provide initial and recertification MAP training.
  • Policy Development and Interpretation : Develop and interpret policies and procedures, ensuring consistent application and implementation of all medical / nursing policies.

Ensure that policies and procedures comply with best practices and / or state and federal requirements.

  • Quarterly MAP Review : Conduct quarterly reviews of the MAP, provide feedback to managers, and follow up on any issues.
  • Program Visits : Frequently visit programs with significant medical involvement.
  • Emergency On-Call : Serve as the emergency on-call contact for MAP and health-related issues.
  • Meetings : Attend all intake, discharge, and team meetings involving medical concerns.
  • Behavior Modifying Medication Treatment Plans / Medical Protocols : Oversee all treatment plans involving behavior-modifying medications and medical protocols.
  • Administration and Supervision of Partnership with Station MD : Oversee and manage the operations and services provided by Station MD, ensuring that all aspects are efficiently controlled and directed to maximize optimal services to individuals served.
  • Health and Well-being Training : Offer alternate and program-specific training related to the health and well-being of individuals.
  • Referral Feedback : Review and provide feedback on new referrals.
  • New Resident Medical Needs : Review and ensure all medical needs and training are in place for new residents.
  • Training Tracking : Track program-specific training and schedule sessions with managers.
  • Quality Enhancement (OQE) : Oversee OQE preparation for all MAP-related areas and attend OQE reviews.
  • Medical Follow-Up : Review medical progress notes and visits, ensuring timely follow-up.
  • Residential Team Meetings : Attend meetings and present relevant information as required.
  • Licensure and Certification : Maintain RN license and other certifications as mandated by DPH, DDS, and other stakeholders

Qualifications

Qualification / Education / Experience :

  • Current license as an RN (Registered Nurse)
  • Maintain a current MAP certification and MAP Train the Trainer (training provided).
  • At least three years of experience with emphasis on community-based nursing services
  • Possession of a valid Massachusetts Driver’s License.
  • Excellent clinical and interpersonal skills and the ability to work independently and as part of a team.
