Essential Job Functions for a Lube Technician II

Building upon the skills of a Lube Technician I

Preventative Maintenance and Servicing (Independent and Efficient)

  • Performs all lube, filter, and fluid exchanges effectively and efficiently, independently following established procedures and schedules.
  • Works swing shifts, nights, and weekends to ensure equipment maintenance is conducted whenever necessary to minimize downtime.

Mechanical Skills and Inspections

  • Conducts detailed equipment inspections, identifying potential mechanical problems and areas requiring maintenance or repair.
  • Possesses strong mechanical aptitude and the ability to diagnose minor equipment malfunctions.
  • Performs minor repairs, rectifying identified mechanical issues to ensure equipment functionality.
  • Maintains personal tool kit sufficient to perform work duties.

Additional Responsibilities

  • May troubleshoot and resolve basic equipment operation problems.
  • Keeps accurate records of maintenance performed, parts replaced, and equipment condition.
  • Reports any major mechanical issues or repairs beyond their scope to a supervisor or mechanic.
  • May assist a mechanic with more complex repairs (as instructed).
  • Stays up to date on lubrication procedures, safety protocols, and new equipment specifications.
  • Has the ability to order machine filters, and or cross reference filters to ensure the correct filters are installed.

Compared to a Lube Technician I, a Lube Technician II demonstrates a higher level of mechanical expertise and the ability to perform independent inspections and minor repairs.

They play a more critical role in ensuring the smooth operation of the quarry by identifying and resolving minor equipment issues.

Essential Skills and Abilities

  • Technical Proficiency :
  • Expert knowledge of lubrication systems and procedures for heavy equipment, specifically in rock crushing operations.
  • Ability to efficiently and accurately perform fluid and filter exchanges for various equipment components.
  • Strong understanding of different types of lubricants, coolants, and hydraulic fluids, and their applications.
  • Mechanical Aptitude :
  • Proven ability to diagnose mechanical issues and perform minor repairs on heavy equipment.
  • In-depth knowledge of heavy equipment components and systems.
  • Skill in using hand and power tools for maintenance and repair tasks.
  • Attention to Detail :
  • Meticulous approach to equipment inspections, ensuring thoroughness and accuracy.
  • Ability to follow maintenance schedules and procedures precisely.
  • Physical Demands :
  • Capable of performing physically demanding tasks, including lifting heavy objects, working in confined spaces, and standing for extended periods.
  • Ability to work in various weather conditions and environments.
  • Flexibility :
  • Willingness to work rotating shifts, including nights, weekends, and holidays, to accommodate equipment availability.

  • Previous experience as a lube technician or mechanic in the heavy equipment industry.
