About The Position

Job Title : Sterile Processing Technician (SPT) Job Specialty : Central Sterile Job Duration : 13 Weeks Shift : 07 : 00 AM - 03 : 30 PM Guaranteed Hours : Not specified Experience : Minimum of 1 year as a Sterile Processing Technician License : Willing to review those with pending state licenses Certifications : Sterile Processing Technician certification required within 6-9 months of hire Must-Have : Proficiency in medical terminology and sterilization procedures Job Description : Responsible for the decontamination, cleaning, processing, and sterilization of supplies and equipment following established infection control practices.

• Ensure the proper operation of autoclave units daily.- Run biological and chemical tests at the start of the day shift and record results.
• Inspect gas and steam autoclaves for visible signs of malfunction and report issues.- Process or oversee all contaminated instruments and supplies.
• Utilize knowledge of sterilization principles to correctly wrap or package items.- Process items appropriately using steam sterilization.
• Maintain spore testing on a routine basis and document results.- Assist with monitoring and processing department supply charges and other clerical work.
• Work closely with the Surgical Services Director in training new personnel.- Apply aseptic techniques in daily work assignments and maintain a clean department.
• Store and stock supplies; maintain equipment registers and handle care of instruments.- Perform tray assemblage, proper packaging, and preparation of supplies for sterilization.
• Properly load, operate, and clean all sterilizers, using required biological and chemical tests.- Maintain preventative maintenance procedures on equipment and submit repair orders as needed.
• Receive and deliver surgical supplies and fulfill requisition requests.- Assist with stock monitoring in storeroom and restock nursing supply carts.
• Order warehouse stock and manage supply carts on nursing units. Professional Requirements : Adhere to the dress code and maintain a neat and clean appearance.
• Complete annual educational requirements and maintain regulatory standards.- Maintain patient confidentiality, report to work on time, and wear identification while on duty.
• Maintain good rapport and cooperative relationships with physicians, staff, and health plans.- Participate in performance and quality improvement activities and comply with organizational policies.
• Regulatory Requirements : Completion of high school or equivalent education. Language Skills : Effective communication in English, both verbally and in writing;

additional languages preferred. Skills : Thorough knowledge of medical terminology and equipment used in the department.

Familiarity with cleaning and sterilization procedures, conscientious regard for procedures.- Basic understanding of department functions and computer skills.

Physical Demands : Regularly required to stand, walk, use hands, reach with arms, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, talk, and smell.

• Occasional sitting required; ability to hear alarms and instructions.- Regularly lift / move up to 10 pounds, frequently up to 25 pounds, and occasionally more than 100 pounds.
• Specific vision abilities, including close, distance, color vision, and ability to adjust focus.- Reasonable accommodations may be made for individuals with disabilities.

Work Environment : Occasionally work near moving mechanical parts and exposure to fumes, airborne particles, toxic chemicals, and electric shock risk.

Occasional exposure to blood and body fluids; moderate noise level in the environment.
