Job Description / Preferred Qualifications
The LS-SWIFT Division seeks a Mechanical Design Engineer to augment our Optomechanical Design team. The selected engineer will own developing mechanical subassemblies, covering the complete design process from requirements specification to feasibility studies, analysis, and FEA modeling, conceptual and detailed design, and drawing using ProE, procurement and inspection of prototype parts, prototype assembly and testing, system integration, and handoff to manufacturing.
A particular focus of this position will be analytical and experimental validation and optimization of challenging mechanisms and optomechanical designs.
Responsibilities
- Develop mechanical subassemblies, covering the complete design process.
- Conduct analytical and experimental validation and optimization of mechanisms and optomechanical designs.
Required qualifications :
- Solid mechanical engineering fundamentals, including design principles, machine elements, materials, and fabrication methods.
- Strong analytical problem-solving skills.
- Beginner to expert-level experience in using FEA - structural, thermal, and CFD.
- Hands-on lab tests, automated data acquisition, and data analysis.
- Experience with CAD, preferably Pro Engineer. Experience in using the FEA package, preferably ANSYS.
Desirable qualifications :
Experience in several of these areas is desirable but not required : precision mechanics, mechanisms, nano motion actuators, optomechanical systems, optics, optics alignment, design of semiconductor equipment or similar instruments, PCB packaging and thermal analysis, machine tools, motion controls, data acquisition, and measurement instrumentation.
Minimum Qualifications
Doctorate (Academic), Master's Level Degree or work experience of 2 years, Bachelor's Level Degree or work experience of 4 years.
